Rask granted a leave of absence to deal with a personal matter. Hope everything is ok with Tuukka. This might explain some things.

Sweeney to speak soon, I guess.

Providence options:

Vladar- .899 save percentage
McIntyre- .826 save percentage

Zane can probably be used for a game or two in a pinch, but if this Rask thing is long term they’ll need to make a trade.

Sweeney says Rask’s absence is not health related. They will call up a Providence goalie after tonight. No timeline for Rask, could be a few days.

Also, he says McAvoy’s got a concussion.

I wrote a longer note about mental health, but "a few days" is putting up flags for me that this is possibly more of a family issue than a mental health issue. That being said, if the Bruins are giving a player time off to deal with his mental health, I think that is a huge positive thing, and will have more thoughts.

Edit: I should have said this initially, and hoped that it was implied, but I do hope that this turns out as well as it could, regardless of the issue, for Tuukka and his family.

All the best to him.

Tell us what's up, or don't. But get yourself right, Tuukka, whatever that means.

Yeah this is one case where it’s not really worth speculating. There are so many different things it could be and he/they clearly want privacy. We’re not talking about whether this is a concussion or a shoulder when they say upper body injury

Still don't know why KPD has been so obnoxious about Tukka's leave. It was clearly something important and something that Rask needed to attend to.

You know exactly why- it’s because he’s a douche.

I mean, let’s assume the Dupes is annoyed because he knows the reason Rask is out and doesn’t like it, say (completed made up unfounded example here) Rask was cheating on his wife. Even if he knows that, and knows Rask is away from the team and maybe has his performance affected by his own fuckup- it’s still a personal matter and a man tending to his business.

Dupes needs to be taken out to pasture.

Fake edit: I’m not even sure what Dupes has said, but he’s a douche if he’s being pissy about this.

Well, since you asked:

https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/bruins/2018/11/10/rask-leave-absence-reads-like-mystery-novel/v1EJS7uUFmbRs1nCvj0BDJ/story.html

Right now, Rask is the riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.
...
In fact, mid-80s, GM Harry Sinden would have met Rask prior to the next day’s workout and informed him he had been placed on an LOA. No request required. Nothing to grant. Rask would have been told to take a few days off, dwell on his $7 million-a-year salary, and get back on the job after clearing his head.
https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/bruins/2018/11/12/tuukka-rask-jaroslav-halak-and-where-bruins-from-here/WZbWMHXTP6Hud79v6wQGDM/story.html

Rumors over the weekend ran rampant as to why Rask, 457 regular-season appearances on his résumé, requested a leave of absence. Surprisingly, at least as of late Monday morning, none of those rumors linked him to Elvis, a Kardashian, Area 51, or Russian interference. But, wait, it’s early, there’s still time for a Stonehenge link before the charter goes wheels up Tuesday afternoon.
...

What we don’t know, and may never know, are the details as to why Rask felt things were so problematic at home — as he underscored after practice — that he felt the need to abandon his Black-and-Gold brothers ahead of back-to-back Garden visits by Toronto and Vegas.
There's a line between being a douche and just plain unprofessional, and Dupes crossed that one in spades.

That is such a piss-poor effort and sounds so embittered that it almost reads like Shank hacked into KPD's email and submitted it... dare I say it's even out of character - and I'm the furthest thing from a KPD fan to begin with.

Not out of character at all...I wasn’t a Dupes fan even then, but the hack job on Thornton forever changed the way I look at KPD.

He’s a fucking weasel.

Edit: and without hearing it, I basically called it. He sucks. Hard.

Rask didn't "abandon" anyone either....he went to management, explained the situation, and got a few days off to clear a situation that was clearly bothering him and perhaps affecting his play.

KPD's idiotic "Well Harry Sinden would have done this" take is so off base I don't know where to begin The Mid-80s were 30 fucking years ago, times and norms change. Sinden also liked to say he hoped his holdout players learned how to yodel. None of that is relevant to today.

What a prick Dupes is.

It's also worth noting that Rask is a mere 10 wins away from becoming all time franchise leader.....something a player who isn't dedicated to his team and his craft could never achieve. The insinuations are beyond the pale.

This fact surprised me. So I looked it up and then realized that Tuukka has been with the Bruins for 12 years. Time has flown.

Mind. Blown.

I never would have remotely guessed that Tuuka would be 2nd all-time, and basically a lock to take first very soon.

Or that he's also 2nd in games played (by the exact same margin). He's going to go down as arguably having the best career of any B's goalie ever, and I think everyone still thinks of him as all potential, little showing.
