Offensive line overhaul too. A rookie behind this line would be David Carr’d like nobody since David Carr.
That's part of my point. If they have their all world running back and starting QB on rookie deals, it should be pretty damn easy to overhaul just about anything they want from a salary cap perspective. They are actually in a great position to rebuild, if they keep losing and if they hit on that QB. Only question is will they hit on the QB and become the next Seahawks with Russell Wilson, or become the Browns and miss year after year after year (not accounting for Baker Mayfield, who the jury is out on)....If I'm a Giants fan, I'm just hoping to get through this season with no major injuries to OBJ or Barkley, no locker room implosion or off-field arrests, and as many losses as humanly possible.

Manning is terrible. Even when he has time to throw he pitches it out of bounds.

Jesus, where was the Giant gunner going on that punt? It's like he saw the fair catch signal, and headed to the bench. Guy muffed it, and nobody was around for the Giants to try and get it, even though one guy was 10 yards passed the punt returner. Awful.

You make it sound so easy. Just hit on a rookie QB then buy an OL since he and SB are on cheap rookie deals. But then you end up making players like Nate Solder the highest paid T in the league. Not so good.

It's not easy, that's why I mentioned the Browns. All I'm saying is there is a roadmap there for the Giants if they can hit on it. Whether or not they can remains to be seen, but as bad as they look right now, the Giants are one of the few decent organizations historically, with a lot of success under the Mara family, so I think there should be some reason for optimism. It's not like we're talking about Tampa Bay, or Cincy or the Jets...

Edit: Imagine if they passed on Barkley, and instead went with Josh Allen or Josh Rosen, and neither of those guys end up being any good? They'd be a hell of a lot worse off than they are right now, so I think folks that are panning the Barkley pick as dumb, and saying they should have taken a QB, are being a bit premature. If they didn't think the guys out there were good enough, I think taking the best athlete on the board and waiting a year was the right move.

Looks like Pats fans can count their blessings Solder left. Trent Brown has been better for far less money, plus there’s Wynn, who hopefully can come back strong.

Even taking money out of the equation, I’d rather have post-achilles Wynn over Solder.

Barkley is a $25,000 ultra-deluxe car stereo in a 1964 shitbox VW Beetle.Except the Giants thought they were putting it in a Bentley Continental GT.
Amazing how much Zeke and Barkley are getting wasted by their organizations.

It can change in a hurry. Todd Gurley's first two seasons, the Rams went 7-9 and 4-12, and then they went to Jared Goff, fired Jeff Fisher, and went 11-5 last year and are the NFC favorites right now. That's the roadmap the Giants need to follow. It can work.

Dallas is the other end of the spectrum. They're just a mess, but I think Dak is getting a bad rap. Besides Zeke, he's got nothing to work with, and that offensive line that could move the planet two years ago is having trouble pushing anything now. No idea where they are spending their money right now, but they should have a shit ton of it based on the talent that's on the roster and a QB that makes nothing.

I agree with you that Saquon Barkley was an amazing prospect. He was considered by many to be the #1 overall prospect in the draft. He already is a good addition to the Giants and would have been a good addition to any team lucky enough to have him. He is not just a RB but a weapon.

I disagree that taking him and waiting was the right move when Josh Rosen is available but that's a value and judgement call. I don't think there is a right move, but to me the better long term move was grabbing Rosen. From what I read, saw, and studied he was the best QB in the draft or 1b and a top 5-8 prospect. Manning was and is toast. QB is the most important position. Rosen was the most scheme diverse and pro-ready QB. QBs, even theoretically pro-ready ones like Rosen, take time to develop so if you want to start winning sooner draft Rosen now and let him develop. If you happen to tank again in 2018 you can draft next years top weapon in the number 1-4 spot. But there are many ways to do this and, again, I think for me it is more of a judgement/value-call/preference.

I think you are understating not how bad Fisher was but how freaking good Sean McVay is. He's innovative, perhaps the most innovative coach offensively. Night and day don't even do Fisher vs McVay justice. Hitting on McVay is difficult and the Giants usually steady leadership has had a few rough years in a row with coach - front office turmoil. Their McHire didn't work out well (McAdoo).

As for Dallas and Dak: he's not a starting quarterback. I need to sleep so I will be lazy with my own mechanics and leave it at that.

I think you and I just have very different views on Rosen, so it didn't surprise me at all that he went 10th, and last out of the top four QB's, but I'm fine agreeing to disagree there. IMO, the only QB that is going to turn out to be worth a top 10 pick is Mayfield, and I said it at the time. The Giants weren't getting him, so I think Barkley was the right move at the right time, whereas normally, I would eviscerate a team for taking a RB that high.

I also think you're understating how what kind of prospect Barkley was, when you say they could tank again and take next year's version of him in the top 5. Guys like Barkley don't show up every year. There was a famous tweet after the combine that said Barkley was stronger than Joe Thomas (he benched 29 reps to Thomas' 28), quicker than DeSean Jackson (beat Jackson in the 10 yard split 1.54 to 1.55), faster than Devin Hester (4.40 to 4.43 in the 40) and jumps higher than Julio Jones (38.5 to 41.0 in the vertical). He's another level, generational type of talent. The numbers he's putting up behind that offensive line and with that passing game are absurd.

Don't get me wrong, I like McVay a lot, but I'm not quite ready to anoint him just yet. The name people should be talking about with the Rams, and aren't, is Les Snead, their GM. Putting aside the fact that it was Snead who was the first guy to basically go to bat for McVay and convince ownership to take a chance on a 30 year old head coach, Snead has put together, IMO, the most talented roster in the NFL, on both sides of the ball.

He has seemingly made it his life's mission to ruin the Washington Redskins. This is a guy that was hired in 2012, and a month later, he turned around and traded the 2nd overall pick to the Redskins when it became clear Luck was going #1, and he didn't want RGIII. He got back their 1st and 2nd in 2012, and their first round picks in 2013 and 2014, basically destroying the Redskins for the foreseeable future. On top of that, in case people forget, he poached McVay from the Redskins. McVay was the Redskins offensive coordinator until 2016 when Snead hired him to come over to the Rams. LOL. He's made one great move and draft pick after another ever since. John Johnson, Cooper Kupp (go look at that guy's college stats and his size and tell me how many GM's are kicking themselves now for not seeing him), Robert Woods (who he resigned over McVay's guy, Pierre Garcon), Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley and the list just goes on and on to signings like Marcus Peters, Suh, Cooks, etc. McVay appears to be a great coach, but Les Snead has put him into a position where if he doesn't succeed, it would be an epic failure.

As for Dak, I guess we'll find out. I'm not saying the guy is a top 10 quarterback, but I think it's a bit much to say he's not a starter. There aren't 30+ quarterbacks in the NFL better than him. Two years ago, before the entire offense was gutted, he was a fourth round rookie thrown into the fire out of training camp, and went 13-3 with a 104.9 passer rating. He was sacked 25 times in 16 games that year, he's already been sacked 16 times in 5 games this year. He's got nowhere to throw the ball to. I think there are maybe 4-5 QB's in the NFL that could make that offense look average, if not slightly below average, and Dak isn't one of those. He protects the ball and he can move around in and out of the pocket well enough that he already has a leg up on probably 10 other starters right now. He just has nobody around him and he's getting killed on top of it. I'm not ready to give up on him, and I don't think Dallas should either, but if people want to blame him, be my guest, I'm nothing close to a Dallas fan. Don't even get me started on Jason Garrett though.

If Eli doesn’t retire after this year, I think their is a real chance his record dips below .500. Which likely means he will retire after this year.

He is 112-108, it could very well happen this year. If they finish 4-12 and he plays every game he will be exactly .500. Oh man now I have something to root for!!!

By the way if Brady lost every game the rest of this year and then every game for the next 8 years he'd still be over .500

Where did Romo rank in your estimation, over his last 10 GS or so? I still can't believe they pushed him out.
I thought Romo was a top 15, top 10, hell some years played like a top 5 QB. Near the end of his career he had durability issues and that collar bone is probably very brittle by now. He was a very good QB and underappreciated in Dallas. So many years he carried that team. I remember the height of stupidity the year Denver lost to Seattle in the SB. Dallas lost 51-48 and Romo went for 5 TDs, 1 INT and over 500 yards. He was on fire. He did throw an interception late. Who got the daggers for that game? Romo. Cowboys were something like 3rd best overall offense and 3rd worst overall defense and Romo got more shade than a wraith. Got more shade than under a Texas red oak at mid day? I'll stick to my day-job.

Quick edit: last 10 GS? Tough call because he rushed back imo and then was reinjured. I think injuries ruined the back-nine of his career (Romo is also an amazing golfer). It was time to hang it up or getting near it for him.

Wraith worked just fine. Solid 6/10 effort.

Do you think Romo would've been favored to do a better job in 2016 once healthy, or in 2017 and 2018? Prescott was 17th in both DVOA and DYAR last year, gotta imagine Romo could've done better than that.

Who knows. Injuries and old age were starting to get the better of him. I think Romo is enjoying his retirement for many reasons but not getting the shit kicked out of you on a weekly basis probably is a positive. But had he been able to stay health and mentally want to do it... that's a tough question. He's 38 now which used to mean you were really old. Would a 37, 38 year old Romo have been able to put it together better than Dak? I hate to say this but probably not and that's with me being a Dak skeptic and a Romo apologist/fan.

Yeah the problem is he would have gotten hurt.

I get the feeling Jimmy might be the next Romo. Easily top 15 QB, some years top 10 or even top 5... but will have difficulty staying healthy.

Jimmy's career arc is heading in that direction so far, but he also studied under TB -- a master at avoiding injury. No doubt TB getting his knee torn up prodded him to focus more on injury avoidance. Perhaps Jimmy, now that he's gone down twice, will focus on that too.

Just looked at the maps. As someone who will spend a good chunk of the early window at a restaurant/bar that doesn’t have Sunday Ticket, I’d like to thank whomever was responsible for the decision to show Steelers-Bengals in Boston instead of Colts-Jets.

What's the point of a game in London if there's not an extra game to start watching at 8 or 9 AM?
This is a question I've been asking myself for days. I guess early morning games get no ratings, bu now it's one game in a handful of games. It's not special, it's a 1pm Sunday game, one that many people now won't even consider watching.

Yes it’s ridiculous, but it’s what happens when for some reason the NFL decides to put a game between two West Coast teams in London. It’s like they picked the game and were all pumped for it and only realized later that it’s not a good idea to start a game at 6am local time in Seattle/Oakland.

I’m sure the NFL will claim that it’s about building an international audience and their relationship with the UK, but it seems like a complete waste of a London game... which are already pretty uneventful.

It might not get ratings compared to primetime but it must get huge ratings compared to whatever normally runs at 9am on a Sunday.
