I could link to about 100 posts from last year saying "BRING UP BRYCE BRENTZ" (and yes, many of those would be mine), but he hit 16 HR for the Mets AAA team this year. He did miss part of the year and might be part of the Mets September callups.

And yes, if you recall correctly, the Sox sold him to the Pirates who lost him on waivers to the NYM

Buttrey just blew Springer away with 97.

Harold Reynolds asked, "where's this guy been all year? They have him in the minor leagues?"

I'd make the trade every time, but I have a feeling we are going to miss Ty Buttrey. I think he has a chance to be an elite reliever. He made a pretty good transition to the pen last year and took it to another level this season. SSS and all but his stuff looks to be playing at the MLB level so far: 8.1 ip, 7 hits, 9k/3bb. 1.08 era.

Career 7.8 K/9, 3.9 BB/9
2017 10.4 K/9, 4.5 BB/9
2018 13.6 K/9, 2.8 BB/9

He's a completely different animal out of the pen.

Kopech with a really tough and odd outing tonight. 3.1ip, 9h, 7er, 1bb/6k. Gave up 2 doubles and 4 HRs.

So that makes Kopech, Espinoza and Groome in the last few years. Get it out of the way early I guess. Seems like a formality these days.

That’s really depressing news. He seemed as if he’d turned the corner on the road to stardom.

And add Ohtani and a handful of others to that list this year.

TINSTAPP I guess.

Or maybe the human arm/shoulder was not meant to throw the ball 100+ mph 100+ times every other day from age 16 onward. Perhaps unless you ha e the body of Doger Clemens you need to pitch more like Maddux and Glavine and less like Clemens.

Dustin Pedroia out the rest of the year
Pedroia is actually still in the Red Sox organization.

And Kopech tears his UCL right after getting called up. That service clock will be ticking all next year. Good luck getting called up before mid-May Eloy Jimenez

Heard this stat on MLB radio this morning:

Leader for most games in which you pitched at least 5 innings and gave up 1 run or less, 2016-2018 (or maybe it was 2015-2017, they said, “last three years”):

John Lester- 41 times.
I heard this stat today:

Jacoby Ellbury sucks.

I know this is a redundant question, but good god, do you ever give it up?

Adrian Beltre with 2 HRs today. Man it would have been great to see his 30s in a Sox uniform

I feel like with Clay's history nobody was ever gonna sign him to anything longer than a one year deal. He is already 34 and "dominant for stretches until he gets hurt" is widely known as his MO. I am sure he can aways get a flyer deal from someone but nobody is going to give him serious money.

man just imagine the careers of Clay and Lowrie if they could have ever stayed healthy for multiple seasons in a row

Loved Wiktor, great career.

I will always associate him with turning on Felger and Mazz when I was home for the holidays driving my parents’ car after they didn’t re-sign him and Mazz just *completely* lost his mind about how the Sox were stupid, foolish and doomed. And then, like a week later they dealt for Adrian Gonzalez and signed Crawford.

There
Now pitching, Uehara Koji:

Game 1 of the CLDS, they brought him in to the audible surprise of the crowd with two down and one on in the 5th, with one of Japan’s best hitters in Tetsuto Yamada coming up. Koji struck him out with a splitter in the dirt.

Awesome to see him on the hill again in person, even if it’s for the enemy.

Koji didn't play for the Sox for long but he was a delight to watch.

Wow.
I was so stoked when they traded Shea for him. He was the piece, the starter they needed.
Really? I was horrified when they went and got him, based on the fact that he tried to single handily win the 2001 World Series for the Yankees.

You also realize he started a grand total of 8 games for us in 2 years, and was primarily used out the pen.... Was he on the roster for the ALCS in 2003? Was was for the ALDS that year, but they sure as hell didn't let him pitch against the Yankees in the ALCS...
