New month new thread.

Jurickson Profar 4 for 5 today with his 15th HR of the year. Actually really happy for the guy, seems like he is starting to put it all together after some of the worst injury luck I have ever seen. Nomar Mazara hit two HRs as well, bringing him up to 20 for the year

Dave Roberts puts a lefty in to start the 9th of a 1-1 game to face a lefty batter instead of Jansen, as the Dodgers try to take 3/4 from the D-backs with currently a three-way tie at the top of the NL West.

Dinger to center just over the wall.

Why are the Angels starting Ohtani tonight? He has a partial ulnar tear, and they are out of contention. I'd put him on the shelf for the season, or at most use him as a pinch hitter.

Lovullo made a bunch of weird moves and the D-backs lost anyways. Dodgers are back in 1st place.

basically, he had a lefty specialist in to start the 9th. then Roberts PH a righty, so:

-Lovullo brings in closer
-Roberts PHs again with a lefty
-closer has no control, walks two in a row
-sac bunt
-Lovullo pulls closer for their 8th inning guy, who just gave up a bomb to Matt Kemp yesterday
-Matt Kemp crushes a terribly located fastball first pitch nearly a HR again, off the wall, game over

maybe to see if it has healed a bit? i am sure they have a close eye on it. Now would be a good time to see if they need to go ahead and do the surgery or not

Hmm maybe. I hadn't thought of it that way, I was thinking they'd want to avoid surgery and time to heal is their friend.

Ohtani out in the third, his velocity dropped from 96-97 to 90-92 at the end, not good.

Vasgersian, talking about Osuna: "one of the longest suspensions ever given by Major League Baseball"

(uncomfortable silence in the booth as presumably he remembers the guy sitting next to him had one more than twice as long)

Yep, MLBN last night did Seinfeld jokes through their whole recap of this game because of that pic, but none of them as good as that one, kudos.

The Tigers and White Sox are delayed by rain in the middle of the 2nd inning. That's three of Michael Kopech's four MLB starts. I'm not sure if he's the new "Human Rain Delay" or "Bringer of Rain".

the Dodgers have the best run differential in the NL yet are currently outside the playoff picture. that is nuts to me. 1.5 back now after losing a series to the Mets(!) at home(!).

huge series this weekend at Coors, and Kenley is not going due to his heart issues.

Colorado in first, dodgers 1.5 games back. Arizona another half game back.

Arizona at +85, dodgers +129.
Colorado MINUS 8!

If Colorado win the series they might push their differential into the positives.

Blue Jays first baseman Rowdy Tellez has doubled in his first three trips to the plate in the majors. He's the first player in the "live ball era" (1920-) to collect extra-base hits in each of his first three MLB plate appearances.

Braves again allow a home run in the 9th up by 1 with 2 outs. At least this time it was only a solo.

Between the Braves, Falcons and UGA, that fanbase deals with a lot of crushing disappointment.

Atlanta managed to still win.

Boxberger has been an awful closer for the D-backs lately. D-back fans are furious Torey Lovullo sticks with him. Another ex-Ray that organization seemed to know when to get rid of.

With his 30th stolen base of the season, Jose Ramirez becomes the first to join the 30/30 club since Mike Trout and Ryan Braun in 2012. That said, he hasn't hit in 3 weeks (21 g, .167/.290/.205 with 0 home runs), and I don't think he's seen a fast ball since August. It's a shame because with Khris Davis and JD Martinez not hitting for much power lately, he had a legitimate chance to join the much more exclusive club of guys who led the league the home runs and stolen bases in the same season.

Brewers have pulled to within 2 games of the Cubs, after a grand slam from Schoop off of Bumgarner (who had just hit a guy, getting the Brewers off their bench, getting a warning issued, and having Counsell ejected, in a pretty egregious escalation by the umpire, in my opinion). They have won 14 of 19.

The deluge of rain in the DC area really cost the Cubs this weekend. Rained out Friday, lost the DH outright on Saturday, rained out Sunday so they're going to have to come back here on Thursday.

NL races are fun. The Phillies have faded hard however

So, apparently the grounds crew in Philadelphia neglected to have the tarp down for some portion of the weekend and the infield is currently unplayable. They’re using some sort of flamethrower to try to dry it out before the game tonight.

Rays knock Kluber out in the 2nd inning. Up 4-1 on Cleveland in the 3rd. Scored 32 runs in their 3 game set vs BAL over the weekend. Unfortunately the A’s get to feast on BAL this week.

Why is this unfortunate?
Are you hoping the Rays squeak into a playoff spot?

MIL's Josh Hader tonight: 2 0 0 0 0 6
On the season: 73.2 IP, 29 H, 127K

Just 24 years old. Do we still have a PTBNL from the Shaw/Thornburg deal? I'd consider parting with a pinky toe to have him on our postseason roster...

No Magic for the Rays tonight. Squander bases loaded in the 7th and a good start by Glasnow and fall to CLE 2-0. Breaks their 12 game home winning streak.

Ever since the Williams - Pedro nonsense and subsequent Daubach bs, I’ve hated the Rays almost as much as the Yankees. I hate the A’s with a passion as well. Not sure who to root for to beat the shit out of NY.

The Phillies have gone 6-16 in their last 22 to pretty much kill their chances of the postseason.

Snell gives up 1 hit and 1 run over 7, notches win #19 as Rays take 2 of 3 from CLE.

A’s already thumping the O’s 7-0 in the 3rd tonight. They get to feast on them again tomorrow before heading to St. Pete for a 3 game weekend set. Rays need to sweep to have any prayer of catching them, but even if they do, it’s still a massive long shot and would require an A’s meltdown.

Freakin’ Cleveland would be a 4th place team in the AL East.

They haven't won a series since August 5. Since then:
1-2 Ariz.
1-2 SD
1-1 Sox
2-3 Mets
1-2 Nats
1-2 Tor.
1-2 Nats
1-2 Cubs
1-2 Marlins
1-2 Mets
0-3 Nats

Not exactly Murderer's Row there. And they finish with 7 games against Atlanta and 4 against Colorado. Do they even make it to 80 wins?
