Hey folks... I was trying to install Office 2016 on a new Macbook and the .pkg file generates an error saying "Installation failed. The installer could not install the software because there was no software found to install."

It's a 1.6ish GB file from the MS office website and it's definitely paid for and correctly downloaded. I've been googling and the best I can find is people noting the issue but no solution or at least not one that makes any sense to me (I'm not a Mac OS user normally). Any ideas?

I would try redownloading the file from your MS account....

I assume you don't get this when you try and launch the .pkg? If so.. which of those blue circles is the farthest you get?

I downloaded it a second time and same issue. It goes to the Installation circle where the error occurs and then lands on Summary at that point delivery the message.

This is what the error box looks like (google image):

could be a thing related to your account (is it subscription or the buy once/own it?)

what version of OSX do you have?

try this

Buy once and own it. Payment went through and it only let me DL it once that cleared and showed as purchased on the account page. Version High Sierra and currently up-to-date with updates.

Do you have any other version of office currently installed? If so uninstall that...

B: try the downloader from the below link

No previous version of Word is/was on the computer. It’s a brand new MacBook. Almost nothing is on it except for adding Chrome and Firefox. I tried DL’ing with multiple browsers in case that was the problem for whatever reason.

I haven’t had a chance to try the link—it’s not my computer but I’ll give that a shot over the weekend.
