Sad DC is going to retire at 40. He could definitely carry on into his 40s like Hopkins, though I certainly don’t blame him for wanting to get out in one piece, especially with a wife and young kids. Glad he’ll get a big payday. Wonder how much he’s made in his career.

I get it for DC, he has so much going on outside the octagon. He owns a gym, he coaches high school wrestling, he's an analyst and commentator on TV, I think he does some corner work too.

I wonder if the heavyweight UFC division is going to have the same problems as boxing. I never thought too highly of Stipe, and the Brazilians seem not to have worked out lately. Perhaps, all the talent there is also playing football or PF.

Nah, we just have to wait to Kyle Snyder to come to the UFC full time, then I assume Heavyweight is done for a decade or so.

Last night really makes me wonder if DC's friendship and loyalty to Cain cost him a chance at being the greatest Heavyweight ever. I say that thinking about that shot starching Stipe last night and comparing the uppercuts he hit Gustafson on the button with that hurt, but did not finish Gus and the shot that sent Jones' mouthpiece flying that hurt, but didn't put Jones out in the second fight. The power that he gets from not cutting and carrying a little extra muscle really seems to be a difference maker for him. The way he strikes so effectively while maintaining some sort of clinch or grip with the opposite hand is so impressive to me.

I hope he goes out beating Gus / Glover / Latifi in November and then destroying Brock in New York. If you wanted to make a list of greatest combat sports athletes ever, you would probably get pretty close to it by naming the three guys that DC couldn't beat - Cale Sanderson, John Jones and Gatslov. It is cool to see him get something that doesn't come with an asterix, like his LHW belt and doesn't have a historic great standing in his way. It is really great watching good things happen to what is, by all accounts, such a good guy.

Have we seen Stipe hit flush before? Do we know it was DC’s power and not Stipe’s chin? I ask because usually cutting affects your endurance and strength more than your explosive one punch power.

I respect DC's decision to retire at 40, but I'm hoping that the tough cut to 205 is the biggest reason for it, and that his big win last night convinces him that HW could be a lot of fun for him if he sticks around longer. He looked like he was having fun. A little more fun in the UFC would be a good thing.

I think Francis got him a couple of times with punches that would kill most men. I would need to go back and re-watch that fight.

From the DC side of it, he did sleep Big Foot Silva at the top of his powers back in Strike Force.

Good points all. I mean that was a hook that moved 3 inches. That was some Pei Mei shit and he really wasn’t able to get his body into it.

“Some Pei Mei shit”

I am plagiarizing this line repeatedly in the near future. Nice work.

Whenever I would teach people to fight and they couldn’t grasp the concept that a hook should be thrown entirely with the body with basically no arm movement and ideally with only 2-3” of total distance and someone would look at me funny, I’d pull that line out and they’d get it.

HW is barely a division. They're all old. It's probably worse than boxing.

I'm not sure it even matters legacy wise. He did plenty of great work at 205 and didn't really miss a lot at HW. Especially after last night and now that he gets Lesnar too. Who'd he miss at HW, just Verdum and Overeem? That's not a big deal, unless you say Cain, and that's different. Verdum and Reem aren't more impressive than Rumble or Gustafsson.

Post but it was pretty flush. I’m sure there is a clip somewhere. I’ve always been impressed with Stipe’s chin. Overeem caught him, JDS in their first one wobbled him a few times and Ngannou caught him with one or two that were scary. It makes DC’s knockout all the more impressive.

So I just finally saw mention that Chuck vs Tito 3 is a thing that is actually supposed to happen now. Under Golden Boy Productions.

Lulz. Better then that last Shamrock vs Gracie cash grab I guess.

TMZ: Conor McGregor: Plea Deal That Avoids Jail, Deportation
Conor was charged with one count of felony criminal mischief and 3 counts of misdemeanor assault.

Sources familiar with the deal tell us, prosecutors have agreed to reduce the felony to a misdemeanor. That's hugely significant because a felony involving violence could trigger permanent deportation from the U.S.
The Irish bad boy faced 7 years behind bars if convicted, but we've learned prosecutors are agreeable to probation ... NO jail time.

I walk into my gym tonight and buddy asks me, “Hey, did you watch Shogun get knocked out?”

I asked him “why the fuck do I want to watch Shogun get knocked out for?”

Shogun has been slow as shit since he left Pride and he still got a UFC belt. Shogun beat Rampage in Pride like Rampage was a small child. Some 14 year old kid probably watched Shogun fight this week and thought ‘wow, this guy sucks’. That’s hard to think about.

Let’s relive the glory days. First vid is Shogun stomping on a lot of dudes heads (rules were different in Japan). Vid 2 is a classic mma highlight vid.

Chuck Liddel was the first one I vividly remember where it was just like "oh man this dude is COOKED, this is sad"

BJ Penn is probably the worst one for me. And he's STILL FUCKING GOING.

Shogun vs Henderson is still the best fight I've ever seen.

Isn’t Liddell fighting Tito soon, or was that not actually consummated?

JJ is gun shy since the first Rose fight. She short arms everything.

And how are these women passing drug tests?

This Aldo Stephens fight is confusing. Aldo’s peak is way higher than Stephens but Stephens seems as good as he has ever been and Aldo is way past his prime.

Yeah Aldo looks to be in decline clearly. Seemed like Stephens was winning until the liver shot.

What a great card for free. They should do more like this to rope fans in.
It's especially valuable in the summer. Staying in to watch isn't that appealing, but watching on DVR in the morning is.

So zero repercussions on McGregor from the UFC for the Brooklyn fiasco? I bet the other fighters (especially the ones who got hurt) must love that message. Dana White is a joke

Fighting Khabib is punishment enough

You're kidding, right? His punishment for a felony assault is a title fight where he will earn millions of dollars?

Court dropped felony charges. People want to watch him fight. I don’t think this is that complex or surprising. Dana White is not going to kill the golden goose to make some moral stance.

I get all that, but you have to admit, the UFC pretending nothing happened, not even a slap on the wrist, is a joke. What line does he have to cross before they discipline him?

Throwing a chair at a bus? Who gives a fuck? 155 is stuck in the mud til Conor fights. Doubt Dana had anything to do with it but credit to him if he did.

Khabib has no defense standing up. This'll be over quickly and they're willing to pay you to bet Conor too.

Wonderful day. There was never any doubt. I've already won $500 for the UFC not releasing Conor and will win another $500 as long as his fight with Khabib isn't postponed beyond 2018. Conor's bus attack manufactured one of the biggest money fights in UFC history (which I'm convinced was at least an ulterior motive for Conor, if not the main motivating factor). There was no way the UFC was turning down this opportunity.

Also, what a fun fight this is going to be. Conor had better be working overtime mastering his TDD. I truly like both fighters for much different reasons and will probably never be able to decide which outcome I prefer.

Head says Khabib. Heart says Conor.

That said, count me in if Conor runs to +200

Conor has no ground game either. As long as Khabib isn't stupid and goes in there looking to fight his fight as a completely different beast then short notice Chad Mendes...that's where it's going too.

Kinda shocked Conner is coming back to take this fight over Diaz. So big ballsy props to him on that. Terrible matchup, and I can't see the PPV #'s being notable bigger with the casual fan factor.

Diaz 3 is always out there. The time to capitalize on this fight is right now. It’s probably the right money decision (besides doing something with Mayweather). But I agree...huge balls. Fighting a dangerous animal for all the glory or his legacy taking a big hit.

This Viana girl is fucking nuts. All she has to do is go out there, clich and pull guard. Instead she is acting like she is in a tough man competition.

edit: Well, she tried, but too tired and concussed

Love to see judges give entire fights to guys who scored takedowns and then didn't do anything with them. Very good judging.

Yeah, I didn't like that either. Dont' get me wrong - it was a great fight. But it seems to me like they gave an inordinate amount of weight to empty takedowns when DJ controlled the overall pace and continuously scored on him.
