Assuming the Lightning get Karlsson in on a $12m AAV extension, with Miller and Foote / picks heading out to OTT and Callahan to NYR respectively (among I'm sure a bunch of other pieces), they are absolutely stacked up.

RFA salary assumptions:
Brayden Point: $5.3m AAV, 4 years
Cédric Paquette: $1.75m AAV, 2 years
Slater Koekkoek: $1.4m AAV, 2 years
Jake Dotchin: $1m AAV, 2 years
Adam Erne: $800k AAV, 2 years

$1.83m for the Matt Carle buyout

Palat - Johnson - Kucherov
Killorn - Stamkos - Point
Paquette - Cirelli - Stephens
XX - Erne - XX

Hedman - Karlsson
Sergachev - McDonagh
Koekkoek - Dotchin

Vasilevsky
Domingue

That puts them at $78.55m with enough room to add 2 fourth-line JAGs, a 13th forward, and a 7th defenseman, assuming the cap goes up $1-2m again. The silver lining is Sergachev is up after next year but they'll likely just move Killorn to fit him. Fuck.
I’m not as well versed in hockey as other sports but wouldn’t trading someone weeks after signing them to an extension be a huge no-no (like ruin relationships with agent(s) and the reputation of a front office)? Or am I completely off base here?

FWIW, I live in Tampa and most people down heee think Sergachev is gone in any potential karlsson deal
I've watched limited amounts of Sergachev, but based on what I've seen and his underlying numbers, I think he's going to be a star. As a fan of a TB rival, I'm hoping Sergachev is part of this deal. I think he'll be more valuable over his next contract than Karlsson will be.

It's uncommon, but it's happened before.
  • Kyle Turris was traded 6 games after ending his holdout in '11-'12, signing a 2 year RFA deal before Phoenix sent him to Ottawa
  • Dave Scatchard was signed to a 4 year deal by the Bruins coming out of the lockout, and got dealt 16 games into the year for David Tanabe (this one's more egregious IMO given he was a long-term UFA signing)
  • Tyler Seguin was signed to an extension by the Bruins, but was traded before it even started
  • Marian Hossa was signed to a 3 year deal by Ottawa as an RFA, and moved that week for Dany Heatley IIRC

True - though that NMC kicked in beginning July 1 of his second year of the extension, so he was already on the new contract for about a year

Every time I think about that Subban trade I just shake my head. Especially now that Weber has a bum knee.

I misunderstood then about the timing of the NTC. Still, he was traded 1 year after signing an 8 year extension. Not exactly the condition you were looking for, but close.

Sounds like a multiplayer deal between Chicago and Arizona is about to go down, with Hossa and Vince Hinostraoza going to Arizona. Here's the full trade:

Nice offseason for the Coyotes. Convinced OEL and Hjalmarsson to stay, flipped Domi for Galchenyuk, added Grabner on a reasonable deal in UFA and picked up a couple of useful depth players in Hinostroza and Oesterle in the Hossa dump today.

That contract is fucking insane, but I suppose if he cripples some guys in the playoffs it's worth it.

Cody Ceci asked for $6m in arbitration

Looks to potentially be a ploy to get the contract above the $4.22m walkaway threshold and have the Sens grant his UFA rights

For Stone I doubt they'd walk away, he's good enough to have trade value on a 1 year, $8m deal - Ceci at $5m+ probably isn't

Skinner got moved to Buffalo for Cliff Pu (3rd rounder in '16, still in the OHL this past year at age 19-20), a 2nd, 3rd, and 6th round picks.

I get that he only had one year left but that's an awful return for Carolina

They would’ve been better off keeping him and dealing him at the deadline. Guess they just decided he had to go no matter what?

Buffalo can put Skinner with Eichel, then pump and dump at the deadline if they’re out of it.

Word is Skinner vetoed 'several' deals as he had an NMC. He's from Markham, near Toronto, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
