Bummer this ended up getting done so close to the playoffs. This kind of thing is almost always an off-season procedure unless it suddenly becomes a major pain generator.

Not sure if there is any hardware left in there or not, but theoretically the bone will be weakened for a little while post hardware removal. I doubt they want him risking it for a few weeks minimum if they’ve taken everything out, but we shall see.

Regardless, in general it’s good news. No reason to think this will be a long term issue.
Why is this Dukie ortho trying to give me angina in the afterglow of yet another remarkable Celtics win?

Do you think there’s any merit to this?

Could he be any more vague?

* Knee surgery just prior to playoffs could affect his short-term performance.
* Multiple knee surgeries could affect his long-term performance.

I think that pretty much covers this piece. GJGE

“It will end up being this kind of cyclable issue which will become a nagging problem for him throughout the rest of the season until he gets that hardware removed. The one danger is, if he’s already having a lot of pain and he goes out there, you continue to irritate the tendon, the concern is do you eventually rip through skin so that is a big concern that they have to worry about. I think there will be lingering effect from this injury - the patella fracture the the had - that will continue to effect his career.”

I don't get what he means by "rip through the skin" here and I don't understand what "hardware" he's referring to, though I noticed Radsoxfan used the same terminology, so I was hoping maybe he could clarify.

Rip through the skin sounds incredibly painful and doesn't sound good in any context, yikes

I thought they were just taking the wire our that secured the bone pieces while it was healing in his patella?

It's a glorified bread twist-tie.

I have one in my knee. I was told that as time goes on, it's possible the tissue grows in such a way such that it's irritating. This is not mysterious: It's a piece of metal, so sometimes it's irritating. If that happens, I was told they'd take it out for comfort but that otherwise it's not a concern.

I was also told this is standard and was not reflective of the particulars of my situation.

And that guy spelled "affect" incorrectly, unless he was being cryptically dark.

Kyrie out for the playoffs per Woj on Twitter just now. What a horribly unlucky season.

And yet it’s been such an inspiring season. Before Game 1, we weren’t supposed to win it this year. The team was supposed to gel and wait for the Warriors to start getting old or whatever. Well, this season showed us what we already should have instinctively known. Nothing is set in stone - the best teams on paper still have to deliver and avoid injuries. And meanwhile, not only did our team gel (incredibly quickly), but our younguns turned into stars before our eyes. Oh, and the team showed it doesn’t quit - ever, and we’ve been reassured that we have the best coach to lead them. I’m perfectly content with whatever happens from here on out.

Incredible 9 minute video of Kyrie. Fun to hear Gorman and Tommy lose their minds watching him pull off these moves.

I forget how amazing he is offensively. That stretch after the all-star break where he was launching 3s was bordering on Steph-like. The dude has top-3 offensive player potential if he and the coaching staff can put it all together.

https://sports.yahoo.com/report-heat-lebron-james-tipped-180044246.html

It has been made clear to me by multiple people: Kyrie never really wanted LeBron to come back in the first place, that he didn’t think that it was necessary. LeBron said something to Kyrie on the court following a game when he was with Miami, something to the effect of, “Keep going. Keep doing what you’re doing. You never know. I could be back here one day” or something like that. And Kyrie went in the locker room and basically said, “We don’t need that. What’s he talking about? We don’t need that guy.”

That's a complete click bate headline from Yahoo. So Kyrie made a comment after a game 5yrs ago that they didn't need LBJ. Miami had probably just smoked the Cavs and Kyrie wasn't in the mood. Jeesh, that Yahoo reporter should be ashamed of himself. A total nothing burger.

That story felt like nothing, but then this one came out:
http://amp.si.com/nba/2018/07/06/kyrie-irving-did-not-want-lebron-james-cleveland-cavaliers-return-asked-trade

The reporters quoted there are all pretty plugged in with the Cavs. I'm guessing that after LeBron left, they no longer had to worry about losing access if they dropped some of the inside dirt, so it's not surprising to see this stuff come out now.

His progress sounds encouraging in that interview. I'm getting pretty pumped to see what this team can do with him back healthy.

Go 64-18, score an upset victory over Golden State on the road in game five, followed by them strangling the life out of the Warriors to win the title in game six at home.

I so want this guy to extend. I like Horford but if I have to choose it's not close for me
I don't think these 2 are on the same track, future contract-wise, but in terms of present value I don't see any plausible argument that Irving > Horford.

I like the imagery of game 6 in 2008 this post invokes....whether intentional or not on your part. Sign me up.

Cs will have homecourt vs. GSW.
