There is absolutely no way the Bruins signed a backup to over 3, never mind over 4, when they could have just brought back Dobby at 2.5.He has a career .916 save percentage including .917 in 15’ and 16’. Last year, for the Islanders he was worse (.908) but that could have been at least partially the team (both other goalies were worse). I’d love it under 3M/yr and hate it over 4.
Halak can push Rask much moreso than Dobby, and is a better all around goalie. He's worth the extra money, but combined the Bruins are paying $9.75m for their goaltenders which is high. Solid signing that should really help solidify their back end, even if it's a bit expensive.Because Halak is better at goalie than Khudobin.
This is really the main point for me. I could see a situation where Halak steals the starting role from Rask (not saying it would happen) and could never see that with Anton. Halak is borderline starter material and is great insurance in case of injury/suckiness from Rask. You pay a couple extra grand for that all day.Halak can push Rask much moreso than Dobby, and is a better all around goalie.
