Maybe Greg or someone more familiar with the Pens beat can confirm the legitimacy, but I got this retweeted by a bunch of hockey people I follow. Seems like a Post-Gazette writer.

Jack Johnson signing a 5/$16 million deal with the Pens on Sunday.

I don't know if this belongs here, but...

"21 year old QMJHL defenseman Olivier Galipeau signs one year deal AHL deal with Bruins. Was expected at Canadiens camp."

Seems to have legs with all the PGH media guys so I assume it's happening and it's fucking horrifying.

This surprises me, apparently he's from Montreal. Why he jumped away from his hometown team...

Carter Hutton looks to be going to BUF. Bernier to DET. Cam Ward to CHI. All three were connected with the Bruins' backup goalie spot at some point. Dobby reportedly looking for $2.5 a year right now.

Are they not considering McIntyre for the job? He had a decent year in Providence. Instead of committing multiple years to some journeyman backup why not see if this guy can play in the NHL first?

$2.5 for Khudobin is horrifying
It is. Especially for anything over a one year deal. He got hot for six games in November where he only gave up 11 goals and had a .944 save percentage, but in his other 24 starts he was .902 with a 2.70 GAA. He wasn’t a horrible backup in that stretch by any means but he wasn’t good enough to give that kind of deal too when you have a kid in Providence that you drafted and developed that could probably do that for $650k.

Caps re-sign Michal Kempny for 4 years, $2.5m AAV

He got hot towards the end of the season but even aside from that, that's solid value for a 2nd pair d-man's age 28-31 seasons.

The only problem I have with this is it leaves little wiggle room in case of an injury at G. Only other goalies at Prov are Binnington and Vladar, neither of which I’d feel comfortable bringing up in case of emergency. Are there any other goalies in the Bruins system I’m forgetting?

If they go with McIntyre as the backup they should sign an AHL veteran goalie to a minor league deal that can come up and back up if there’s a day to day injury to Rask or McIntyre. If there is longer term injury than make a trade to bring a goalie in.

Binnington is Blues property, he was just loaned to Providence.

The B’s G depth chart is:

Rask
McIntyre
Vladar
Keyser
Swayman

Keyser and Swayman won’t be realistic options for several years. I’m fine with Zane as backup, but the Bruins will need to add a G for Providence. Vladar has spent most of his time in the ECHL but does have 12 appearances over 2 years with Providence. He’s probably ready for a more permanent role in Providence this year, but he is also nowhere close to being able to contribute at the NHL level.

The veteran UFA goalies that may be worth a look and in the Bruins price range are Halak, Lehtonen, Pavelec and old friends Michael Hutchinson and Chad Johnson. Jeremy Smith is a guy they had for 2 years but he doesn’t have NHL experience. I assume one of these guys comes back and it’ll be a camp battle between Zane and the UFA for the gig.

Coming off an 8 year, $56m second contract, Drew Doughty looks to be closing in on an 8 year, $88m extension that will take him through age 37.

Hoping that McAvoy has an 8 year, $60m extension in front of him on July 1 for ages 22-29.

Seems the favorites are Toronto, the Islanders and San Jose based on twitter buzz, but it's apparent no one has real any clue.

Of interest to me is that apparently Bergeron spoke with Tavares in the past few days, so hopefully Patrice can further cement his God status and get hm to come to Boston.

Habs send fringe prospect Simon Bourque to Winnipeg for Steve Mason's $4.1m contract for this year. They also get back Joel Armia, a 4th, and a 7th.

The mish-mash of Armia/picks is not worth taking on that contract IMO (and has them committed for $14.6m AAV in goalies this year) but maybe they have a side deal in place.

edit: missed that Niemi re-signed for $950,000 so that's almost a definite side deal for Mason in the works. Probably with $$ retained

Seems the Habs have come to the conclusion that they will suck again, seems like a nice deal on their end. They could buy Mason out. Add him to the possible Bruins backups list.

This seems to clear the way for Stastny to return to Winnipeg.

Yeah, looks like a good salary dump move for the Peg that allows them to retain a player they really need for depth down the middle.

As for Tavares, Chris Botta, an Islanders reporter, seemed to refute the Fourth periods tweet. Another tweet seemed to suggest some teams have been eliminated, but no one knows who.

The SJ Sharks and Logan Couture have finalized an eight-year, $64M contract extension. Done deal, to be officially official tomorrow.
That's a bad contract. In 2024-25 San Jose will be paying:
33 year old Kane 7m/year
35 year old Couture 8m/year
39 year old Burns 8m/year
37 year old Vlasic 7m/year

I really don't get how that's appealing to a FA like Tavares at all

Agreed. Sounded like he had his mind made up then something happened. I can’t see the Bruins getting into a bidding war here.

I can’t read that tweet. But it’s hard to imagine money being the deciding factor. Everyone is already offering significant contracts compared to other elite players. The only thing that makes sense is some kind of one year deal and extension shenanigan with Toronto.

From what I can gather, most teams offered him 7-84M at $12m per year. I believe the maximum salary next year would be at least $14-15m per year. That would get him a $98-105m contract. Maybe that’s what they mean? Could only imagine the Islanders doing that, but tough to get any clear picture of what is going on. Tavares’ Camp is locked up tight.

Lol wut?????

Coyotes aggressively in the mix for free agent left wing James van Riemsdyk and could get decision as early as tonight. Arizona competing with a couple other teams, including the Buffalo Sabres. Would be a HUGE get for the Coyotes if they can pull this off. Likely a 5-year deal.
