I think people are under-rating Michel's receiving ability. Just because he didn't have a huge number of receptions in college doesn't mean that he can't do it. I have seem a lot of analysis that think he will be a receiving threat.

I’m a big fan of Georgia RBs so I like this pick after my initial disappointment about Jackson/Landry. Now stay away from beach football games, Sony.

If they don't think Landry can be competitive against the run, he ain't getting picked that high.
I don't know that teams care all that much; Dee Ford was a first-round pick. Landry is a touch undersized but he's in range. A guy with his production and measurables at that position doesn't make it out of the first round (or hell, the top 10-15) unless something else is going on ... in this case, it sounds like injury concerns.

I was referring to the Pats, I wasn't clear.

lots of effective shotgun runs in his highlights.. exactly what this offense needs to stay unpredictable.

I think most agree that Michel, if not this year then next, is an upgrade over Lewis.
Lewis was the closest thing we have had to a 3 down back in.....years? The BB TB years?
Even a "kinda sorta"3 down guy made the offense dangerous (Burkheads moments this year)

Also remember we have been 34-3 or something with Lewis as that dual threat ("In games Lewis plays the Patriots are....")

By all accounts we just got the best 3 down back in the Draft.

Look at what Clement did in the SB. 24 plays 8 touches and 108 yards. And the conventional wisdom has become that BB was so worried about getting carved up by Clement/Ajayi/Blount that he "allowed" the passing game to become the vehicle the Eagles would have to use to win. (they did and it sucked) I wonder if BB saw the new queen of the chess board in Lewis,Clement,Kamara etc and this was his attempt to get his own.
Especially when he can pair it with the queen of the chess board 1.0 (Gronk).

I'm surprised at how dissatisfied BB must be with our current RBs to pick "fumbling and not much of a receiver with some injury history" Michel when the Pats are DESPERATE - as in they just lost a Super Bowl because of this - for defense! I mean, are White, Burkhead, Hill and Gilleslee that bad? It also feels like we gave away a draft pick because this pick wouldn't have been necessary if we signed Lewis, who didn't sign with the Titans for an unreasonable amount of money.
The scouts think he can be a good receiver in the NFL. We didn't Blount here.

But it seems you just miss Lewis.

So, what's the over/under on the number of Michel jet sweeps per game? 3.5?

The most exciting part of this is actually the OL that Scar gets to groom:
  • Wynn (he seemed to be eating the DL up on the Michel highlight videos)
  • Brown (Von Miller once called him one of the best OL in the game)
  • Thuney
  • Andrews
  • Mason
  • Cannon
  • Waddle/Garcia/Karras/Ferentz/King/Jelks/Tobin/Croston/Bowanko, etc.
That may be one of the deepest OL group since the days of the bearded 5 doing Visa commercials. If Michel can pick up the playbook fast enough and gets coached up to be secure in his pass pro, not sure how anyone cannot be excited about this pick.

Yup. I’m quite excited and bullish about this pick. Between Michel, Dorsett, and Patterson, there are some real burners here and the OL figures to be quite good. There are no superstars in the skill positions outside of Gronk but the roster is filled with solid players. 3 or 4 guys from this list likely won’t make the roster. Would love to see Berrios get on the PS.

Edelman
Hogan
Mitchell
Matthews
Dorsett
Britt
Patterson
Berrios

Burkhead
White
Michel
Hill
Gillislee

I love the synergy of Trinitron running behind Wynn.

What is the origin of the Trinitron nickname? I'm guessing it's obvious and I'm just a knucklehead.

It was a play on megatron.

Trinitron was a revolution Sony color TV (late 60s) that employed 3 tubes rather than 1 to deliver a superior picture.

Our Sony will deliver superior run/catch/block abilites = Trinitron.

Yes.

Here are 2 eerily similar 4-year college careers.

Player A: 3,613 rushing yards (6.1 per carry), 64 receptions (9.7 per catch)
Player B: 4,015 rushing yards (6.2 per carry), 73 receptions (9.2 per catch)

Player A: Sony Michel
Player B: James White

Can't write Michel off as a receiver based on those numbers.

Is this Trinitron name a SoSH nickname or something that’s actually a real thing?
Not to beat a dead and off-topic horse, but as the old farts among us know, the Trinitron was THE state of the art TV in the 70s and 80s. The difference between a Trinitron picture and a typical Sylvania picture was as much as the upgrade you saw in your first HDTV.

So I see the nickname as high praise. i loved my Trinitrons.

I don’t see the nickname on the web anywhere so I am guessing it started here.

I wonder how sick and tired he is of people making "Sony" jokes?

Trinitrons were awesome.

And its way way better than sticking him with Beta-Max.

Watching Sony's highlights, I saw a guy with more than adequate hands. He seems to catch - and catch and run - really naturally. Obviously it's a highlight real so caveats galore, but...are my untrained eyes playing tricks on me?

I like to think of Michel as part of the new Trinity of Patriot points scoring: the Father (Brady, since he’s made the whole league call him Daddy), the Sony, and the Holy Gostkowski

I'm irrationally excited about this pick. I know the league is a passing league, but a homerun hitter at running back is so exciting to watch in a, "Manny is at bat" kind of way. This kid can be a one cut and gone type of back.

With Julian grinding out third downs, Gronk being Gronk, and now a kid who can rip off 20 yard chunks at any time...this is going to be the most fun offense to watch since Moss was here. And it's still being helmed by the greatest QB of all time. Is it possible to convert more than 100% of 3rd and short situations?

This offense isnt just going to be a monster, but it's going to be really, really fun to watch.

Agreed. Even the best RB they've had through the years like Dillon were more likely to playstation -to-station rather than bring Michel's home run potential. Really, outside of Maroney's rookie year, Blount was probably the best at breaking off big runs.

And due to the Wynn pick and Brown trade, the OL figures to be strong, particularly if Brown is legit. And interior line of Wynn/Andrews/Mason could be amazing.

Well, I stand by "never draft a RB in the first round", but Michel has proved himself to be the exception to that rule.

Criticize the pick all you want but I don't think they win 13+ games this year without this guy. It would have sucked if they passed on him and he wasn't there by the next pick. The difference between Michel and Burkhead/White on runs between the tackles is pretty stark. He's lightning fast and you need 3 arms to tackle him.

Agreed. I was critical of the pick but it was absolutely worth it. Michel has been great.
