It's also hard to know how serious he was when he said it without knowing the context.

Boy, Deadspin really does hate the Pats, doesn't it? (don't they? whatever)

https://deadspin.com/i-hate-the-patriots-and-all-their-fans-but-i-live-here-1822633614

This one is especially dumb, pretending to be coming from a Massachusetts resident that hates the Pats.

It's basically everyone you hated from deflategate all rolled into one. To the point that I'm not 100% sure it's not satire.
It's not even funny anymore because it just rehashes all the jokes we've read a thousand times on the site.

The biggest sign that the site is up its own ass and irrational about the Pats, and Boston sports for that matter, is that none of these articles are funny. They can't even effectively satirize their own Boston strawmen anymore.

And there are no contra posts here because those so inclined are too busy fellating Drew Margary to post. Or if not him, Felger.

It is a foul toxic dump.

Yeah. And the Brady bashing is pretty dumb too. Throwing in shaming Brady’s 11 year old son for good measure is just shameful.

I actually like Magary, because he can be clever and has a shtick that he drops from time to time (especially when he writes outside of Deadspin). But I feel like a lot of the other writers try to emulate his “Boston sucks” bit and it’s a little pathetic.

In late February, 2002, we hosted a small party at my house. It was the first gathering of our closest friends since the stunning win in New Orleans. One of the couples we invited were and still are Jets season ticket holders. The wife is and was a confirmed Patriots hater. One of my kids overheard her saying to someone that the explanation for the Pats win over the Rams was simple: Parity. That line is repeated regularly by us and our kids, and we have never thrown in back in her face. It's better as our family joke, as tempting as it is to remind her of her folly.

As the Pats enter their seventh SB since that remark, here's to the Nation's tears and, in particular, the bitter tears of Pats Hating Jets fans.

Parity my ass.

Parity my ass.
The pats, with their rediculous consistency, for sure threw a monkey wrench into the plan. At that time, her comment may have even made sense. It's interesting that from about that time, 12 different franchises have represented the NFC since the start of the 2000 season. In the AFC over the same time period, that number is just 6. So the lack of parity seems to be an AFC issue, where it's been rare for any team to breakout without great QB play.

Ohh, some people think the Pats Dynasty is tainted. These are first world problems. The fans of the other 31 teams can suck it. Dynasty regardless of what happens today, with a chance to win 3 in 4 years for the 2nd time.

Even the non-Pats on the site were like "Dude this article is fucking awful."

Higgins is not a regular author there. I'm guessing one of the usual authors who was assigned the daily Shit on the Pats piece got sick or something and they farmed it out. I'm all for poking fun (SNL did a good job on this last night), but that piece was boring, the worst sin of all.

I’d like to see someone try to cheat their way to eight Super Bowls.

As though it’s that easy. Oh! Just cheat! Why didn’t anyone else think of that??

I mean, if you could actually pull that off... at what point do you deserve it anyway?

In the last few days I have been loving the exercises in anti-Pats vitriol. Even the Daily Beast article. Bring it on. It all reads like hilarious high humor. Most of these people know it is a massive exercise in bathos, the fools dumb enough to take the 'cheateriots' narratives seriously are worthy of some combination of pity and awe.

I’m enjoying it as well. Tho Bruni’s criticism that “They shamelessly hoard glory” remains the single best butthurt quote of this season.

Ha. I think about movies like Ocean's 11 or the Italian Job, and I think about the amount of work and energy and effort and planning and cost and skill that went into those (fictitious) thefts and part of me thinks...yeah, if you can pull THAT off... you totally deserve the loot.

I'm Arsenal fan, and I've noticed that they do this for teams in pretty much every sport. They pick a popular team or two, and then just write troll-job articles. It's their thing. I really don't care and just avoid the site now, but it keeps popping up in my news feed even when I tell it to stop.

I love picturing Dungy getting all amped for the team he picks over the Patriots and the soul crushing experience that follows. Rodney just sitting in the background smiling.

Serious question: if your friends have kids, how do they approach the fanship inheritance question? Do they let their kids choose a good team, or force them to be Jets fans?

Not sure where to put this, but Lane Johnson chirping about how lame the Patriots' Way is:

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/22399926/lane-johnson-philadelphia-eagles-calls-new-england-patriots-fear-based-organization

"Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson took some parting shots at the New England Patriots, saying during a recent interview that the reigning AFC champions are a "fear-based organization" where the players don't have fun."

""I just think that the Patriot Way is a fear-based organization," Johnson said on the Pardon My Take podcast. "Obviously, do they win? Hell yes, they win. They've won for a long time. Do I think people enjoy and can say, 'I had a lot of fun playing there?' No, I don't. That's just the God's honest truth."

Johnson also criticized the Patriots' interactions with the media.

"They're successful, but when they go to interviews, they act like f---ing robots," he said. "Hey, stop being a d---head. We can be cordial for a little bit. You only get to do this job one time, so let's have fun while we're doing it. Not to be reckless, but I'd much rather have fun and win a Super Bowl than be miserable and win five Super Bowls.""

Do these guys who say that Patriots' players have no fun actually KNOW that the Patriots' players have no fun? Because it looks like all that winning is a hell of a lot of fun. And I've really never heard any current or former Patriots' player say that they were miserable in New England. Is Johnson right? Or is he really just projecting here?

I’m sure there’s some truth to what he’s saying. Playing for the Patriots isn’t going to be for everyone. Guys like Antonio Brown and Le’veon Bell would probably be miserable here. Of course, people said the same thing would happen to Moss and he ate it up for a few seasons.

Lane Johnson is a great player but I’d be a little concerned about a guy who’d rather have more fun and lose.

He really ought to ask his teammates Chris Long and LGBT. Blount had so little fun that he shot his way out of Pittsburgh in order to go back to New England. Chris Long looked like he was having fun when he was weeping and hugging his dad after last year's super bowl. I dunno, maybe Johnson needs to do a bit of research before publishing his conclusions.

When Chris Long was interviewed on Pardon My Take during the run-up to the Super Bowl, he was asked about this.

He said it's been more fun to play in Philly, but was he really going to give any other answer?

Lane could be talking out of his ass. Or maybe he's saying the things LGBT and Long can't say outright. Either way, I'm sure there are tons of players that would gladly take a ring at the expense of having less fun.

Honestly not sure, they’re all nowhere near me as none of us stayed in DC. One has two girls, another has two boys and the third is single. Only one is even in the NY area and it’s not the one with the boys, so I’m guessing they probably aren’t Jets fans as he’s smart enough not to force that down their throats. Never thought to ask, really.

I just don’t understand what Robert Kraft has done to be compared to Donald Sterling? Is seriously as simple and idiotic as ‘they should make Kraft sell (because he’s too good an owner, not because he’s a racist)’?

He is a buddy of Trump. For some, that is enough. Especially if your team has soiled itself for a good long time.

Hightower and McCourty seem to like it here. And Lewis. Honestly, the “no fun” comments sound like BS, but that won’t stop the haters anyway. So be it.

And some of that discussion is people that are incredulous someone would say the Patriot Way is not the only successful strategy in the league and that they wouldn’t want to play here. The horror.
I posted it because I was wondering if it's actually TRUE - that Patriots' players aren't having fun here.

I also bolded the point about how he'd rather win once and have fun than have no fun and win five times. I find that to be an interesting perspective. The Patriots "only" win it all about one out of three years in the TB era, which means that two out of three seasons someone else wins it. Though no other team has employed anywhere near as successful a program as the Patriots. The guy is welcome to his point of view - I'm just curious if he's projecting his own feelings on the matter or if he has some knowledge.

Those are pretty easy words to say after winning the Super Bowl.

But how much more work would he have been willing to do, in retrospect, to guarantee getting that feeling now that he knows what it’s like—like, if he didn’t know for sure he would ever get it?

Pats go to the Big Game 50% of the time...

The first response was: "I'm sure there's some truth to what he's saying." Then there's "Why does anyone give a shit?"

Who was incredulous? The response is mostly "Whatever"

He conceded Pats win-win-win no matter what.

So what difference does it make to anyone other than a troll?

More specifically, how many more rings would Pats have if they were more laid back? And you have to show your work here.

If the answer is none, or I don’t know, why is everyone so invested in the happiness of professionals paid millions?
