Deadline is 2/26, but first we have Alex Burrows kneeing Taylor Hall in the head multiple times. Word from Bobby Mac is Burrows gets an in-person hearing. Could be a big suspension.

I'd rather something like this get 15 games for a repeat offender, but overall they're making progress* from the days of the 3-4 game slaps on the wrist for scumbag moves like this. I'd like to see the league in a place where Marchand's 5 game sentence feels light, and where something like Downie on McAmmond is a full season.

(* Outside of the Corey Perry non-ruling of course)

Brendan Smith is in waivers today. He just signed a 4 year, $4.35 million AAV contract with the Rangers last July. Wonder if something is up there, tied in to some other move.

Carolina also waived Marcus Kruger. 1 year at slightly more than $3 million left for him. A lot of money on waivers today.

I just received an e-mail regarding my potential interest in Houston gaining an NHL team. I'm guessing it's because I've purchased tickets for Rockets games and other events at the Toyota Center using that address.

I know Seattle is pretty much a shoe-in at this point. Is there really chatter about a team in Houston? Regardless of it being the fourth largest city in the U.S., I can't see a team drawing all that well.

The consensus right now seems to be that Seattle gets an expansion team and Houston is first up for a relocation, probably Arizona.

Cementing himself as the dirtiest player in the NHL, Dustin Brown is at it again - kneeing on Mikhail Sergachev, who luckily returned

When are the suspensions going to start for him? The fact that Parros and Brown were teammates for two years between Manchester and LA doesn't seem to be a coincidence

Phillip Danault is finally feeling better and while not playing yet is at least traveling with the team.

Danault was injured against the Boston Bruins on Jan. 13 when he was hit by a Zdeno Chara one-timer. Unable to move out of the way in time, Danault immediately fell to the ice holding his head before being attended to by members of the Canadiens medical staff. The 24-year-old remained conscious during the incident and said that he remembers everything. After missing the past 12 games with vertigo and concussion-like symptoms, Danault has not been cleared to return just yet but he accompanied the team on their four-game road trip.

Commenter on NHL Network said Leafs had 50 contracts and had to free up space to make an acquisition.

Miles Wood is real lucky Namestikov wasn't hurt on this unbelievably dumb hit, or he'd be looking at a long break. As it stands he's having hearing today

What an absolute cluster fuck the ending to tonight’s Kings game was.

It’s literally a clown show. You want to see a way to turn off casual fans from hockey who are at the game. Do something like this.

String the fans along and call it a goal and than have Toronto “initiate” a second review and pull the football away.

I may have missed it but wasn’t the second review a challenge for goaltender interference by the Oilers? League initiated the first review to check whether the puck crossed the goal line at any point

I don't understand that call. I watched the replay, that seems to be something you want fans to instinctively recognize as a goal. The NHL needs to clean the goal/no goal stuff up - I (limited by time constraints) love this game, and it's enough to turn me off from the game.

The technology available to solve the over the line issue makes it an insult to fans that they don't get it right. Tennis can do it for end lines but the NHL can't do it for the width of the crease? RFID chips, whatever - make the problem go away.

The goalie interference stuff is harder but needs to be fixed. The Bruins game ended on a questionable call - when the home announcers are shocked the goal stood it raises too many questions. The last thing the NHL needs is questions re: the league integrity because the Maple Leafs are involved.

Fix this stuff.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Patric Hornqvist to a five-year contract extension, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
The deal begins with the 2018-19 season and runs through the 2022-23 campaign, and it carries an average annual value of $5.3 million.

Not bad for the NHL's Mr Irrelevant

I didn’t know where to put this, but fuck. One of the great surprises/disappointments/lessons of my life was the inversion of my respect for Tim Thomas and Stombone over the last handful of years. On the ice is one story, but it’s really only part of it. Luongo is just amazing.

I was going to post something about his speech the other about Parkland - but never really got around to it and forgot until this post.

Luongo has quickly gone to the top of my favorite non-Boston athletes. As more time goes on his comments in the SCF seem super out of character and may have been a reaction to the stress of the situation. But man is he a likeable guy.

I almost posted the video of his speech the other day, too, but didn't have words to do it justice.

He really does seem like a pretty awesome person.

Do you still have a link handy? I haven’t seen it and am interested, will do a search later if you don’t have it anymore.

That was perfect. Short, hopeful, positive and honest.

How dare he make me like him.
