I'm not trying to be obnoxious and piss any duke fans off but did the late game antics bother y'all as duke fans. Talking about the smacking of Kyle guys hand when he tried to help him up

Congrats garlan - as you and others have expressed, I don't think that's a game Tony's previous teams win and I'll admit I was totally wrong.

Talent-wise I'm not sure this is his best team - I think the team with Brogdon as ACC POY was the most-talented - but they definitely play his system the best and everyone knows and accepts their role.

Wait till you see Jay huff and more of Hunter. This is a heavy loaded team. Just very young. Jerome, guy, Hunter, and huff are the same class just the latter two red shirted. Brogs was one of a kind. An all-time great. I truly believe this core is the best all around he's had.

I'm going to have to re-watch it but I remember thinking I couldn't believe Duke was still in it, let alone had retaken the lead. Completely deserved win by the Wahoos who clearly rattled our young stars and made them make mistakes like they were freshman or something. Hopefully, UVa can get to the Final Four and earn some accolades for once.

Uva defense broke down in the second half. I think duke stayed with the zone a few minutes too long

Duke's zone was the key to the comeback, but you are right, they stuck with it too long and the game changed.
Personally I don't think the zone had much effect other than Wilkins missed a few on 3 possessions. Uva had same offensive efficiency in both halves, actually slightly better in second half. Duke was around 68 in first half and 127 in second half. That's a big breakdown for the uva defense.

Edit.. the zone did appear (to me live) to have effect but the numbers don't show it.

The biggest problem with the zone is that they tend to lapse in their rebounding assignments and give up one of the major advantages they should have over a team like Virginia. They gave up a few key second chance buckets in the second half because of this.

UVa still #2 in the new rankings but picked up a decent number of first place votes. Duke win was huge but they also had a 25 point win against 18 ranked Clemson earlier in the week, holding them to 36 points total....only 13 in the second half.

Sounds like Felton's time at Carolina may be done. Hopefully this team will make the tourney.

Slight revenge for Clemson last night.

UNC isn't in danger of missing the tourney... right? What if they finish 8-10 ACC?

If I had to bet right now I'd say they're going to the NIT. And you know what, if that's the "punishment" every time they win a national title, I'm totally fine with it.

Brutal schedule (after Pitt they have to play Duke, @State, and ND all in five days, plus @Louisville, @Syracuse, Miami, and at Duke), injuries, Felton's stupidity, pretty much everything that can go wrong has in conference.

Luck that Pitt bent over and gave you your best player this year

If you think Cam Johnson has been their best player you haven't watched any games besides the two they played against Clemson.

So you're admitting without him you'd be 3-7 in ACC, 14-9 overall? I rest my case

Without him they were a top ten team and had only lost on a neutral court to Michigan State.

A lot of teams are top 10 early in the season before the season plays out

UNC is ranked 10th in the RPI, and 12th in the Pomeroy. They're not missing the tournament. They would have to lose out.

Given they have one conference road win (a miracle at Notre Dame) I'm chalking up every road game they have left as a loss without looking.

Pitt they should beat at home on Saturday, then that leaves home games vs. Duke, who will skullfuck the shit out of them, Miami, who runs an offense that UNC hasn't stopped since conference play began, and another game against Notre Dame, who might have Bonzie Colson back and are looking for a signature win of their own. Plus the Notre Dame game is the final of a three in five stretch where they play Duke and State.

So it's not out of the realm of possibility they win once, and 17 wins and a losing conference record is getting them a spot in the NIT.

Come on, that's total doom and gloom. Pom predicts they go 5-3 the rest of the way, including losing two out of three of these "coin flip" games (games with projected win probability between 45 and 55%): Duke, @Louisville, @Syracuse.

So if UNC goes 10-8 in conference, they'll still be ranked around 12 by Pomeroy's system...(they would have generally met expectations against a schedule of their difficulty for a team that's 12th best in the country). Hard to imagine an extra loss or two dropping them 25-30 spots.

Part of the reason UNC's computer numbers look so good is because they've played by far and away the hardest schedule in the country according to the metrics. Barring utter catastrophe, they'll be fine.

This team plays to the level of the competition in every game. They’ll step up when challenged, but otherwise they’re disinterested and float a ton. Not great.

Upper level tickets at UNC below $200 on stubhub as of this morning. Seems lower than usual.

Beating both Duke and State in the span of about 40 hours might be my favorite non-National Title thing ever.

So Greg29fan you still think they are missing the tournament? That was a pretty pessimistic outlook you had. Seems kinda foolish now especially when you consider their strength of schedule.

No, I think they're pretty safe now LOL. Now you just hope they can keep it going, finish top four in the league, and get a three seed in the NCAAT.

Like I know it was pretty pessimistic, but they hadn't given me much to be optimistic about the three games leading into the Duke game.

The State loss at home was a bad loss, KenPom had it as the second easiest game left on the schedule. They looked better in the loss to Clemson (for one half) and the Pitt game was meaningless.

Also, it looked like Pinson could have been on the sidelines for a bit after that rather dirty undercut he took during the Clemson game.

So I get the concern.
