Tiger draft status/attractiveness may be changing based on this afternoon’s play ...
Someone is going to choke and take Tiger too soon, but the reality is he's only going to play 10 tournaments in 2018. With the first couple of picks, you need a guy who's great and who plays. Tiger, right now, is neither.

No matter what Tiger does this year, I'm still convinced he would be a better pick than my Stephen Bowditch in the 2nd two years ago, or Carl Peterrson in the 1st the year before that. So, I got that going for me.

I don't think so. He'll take another 3 months off to work on his game and get in better shape. He may even wait until the Masters. We all knew he would be rusty and I think no matter what happens today and tomorrow he's exceeded expectations.

(My post was facetious.)

Hey all, this has fallen off my radar. Are we still good to go to start on the 11th (Monday)? Are there any open/lingering questions still out there?

To find out what you owe, go to the tracking spreadsheet linked below and look at column AP titled "Amount owed for 2018". Send it to me via Paypal, PM me if you don't have my email (it's the same from the last two years, so check your Paypal history).

Should I post a final output of the rules/tournaments/payouts?

@Zomp - We need to do the random draft order
@Vegas Sox Fan - Do you have what you need to make updates to the tracking spreadsheet for next year?

Where is this tracking sheet for the amount I owe?

Edit: Nevermind. I found it. It was on the 2017 Spreadsheet, not the new one.

It’s the one we used last season. You owe $125.

For reference (since I forgot to link it):

The original plan from FL4WL3SS in the last thread was
You can carry over to next year, send BMHH an extra $50 and then send me the remaining.
Now that we've upped the entry to $150, he actually owes $25 and I'm owed $25. But if you've already sent him his $25, he'll have to pay me, and I'll pay you. Does this make any sense?

Ah I totally forgot about/missed that. That makes sense. I’ll let you two sort out your payment separate from the league fees, especially since he didn’t have enough winnings to cover what he owed you anyway (because we raised the fees).

Payment sent. Given that it's virtually impossible for me to do worse than last year, I'm very much looking forward to the 2018 season.

FYI - I'm having minor surgery* on Tuesday the 12th and will be out of commission for a few hours. Should not have an impact on the draft, but in case there's even a minor delay, that's the reason.

*Surgery is to remove Nick Watney from my consciousness. Oh, and apropos of nothing, fuck Brandt Snedeker and his injury-plagued 2017 season with a rusty nail.

Excited to start this again! We have 15 members that have have done this all 6 years now, and we welcome back JohnMD and InJacobyWeTrust

CShea is the only 2 time winner in the past 5 years.

No one has ever won from the #1 draft spot and the winners have come from draft spots 2-8 each year.

In the previous 5 years no changes to the schedule were made. It always took over 300 points for the season to win, but that number will go up slightly this year.

If you guys can include your SoSH handle when you PayPal, it's super helpful at the end of the year when I figure out who is who.

For that that haven't paid, let's get those payments in, and let's get this draft going on Monday. As always, looking forward to this season, especially coming off my career best 2nd place this past season. Pretty sure it was my career best by about 14 spots too.

I'm totally failing on getting this up and running, Christmas shopping is the death of me today. Tomorrow morning I'll do a full tally of who has paid, post all the rules/schedule/payout in one thread, and get @Zomp to pick the draft order. Then we can aim for a Wednesday morning start. Having moved this to start with the Sony we now have plenty of time.

Everyone get ready!

Yes, that's how I laid it out based on common feedback from everyone.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Here's my thoughts on some of the stuff. One thing I will say about this league though is that my favorite part about it is the simplicity. I don't want to tinker too much with something that I feel is already working great and is a ton of fun. So I was considering all of that as I was responding to these.

This is fair. Let's start with the Sony and not the TOC, seems to be a consensus there.

With regards to payouts now, here's what I propose due to feedback (still open to suggestions). I don't agree with paying out the Fedex Champion because the person who owns that golfer is almost guaranteed to be high at the standings already. But if we want to throw $50 towards it, that's fine). My goal in all of the money is to spread out the winnings a bit so more people have a chance win some form of $. I also like increasing the tournament fields/potential winnings, which is why keeping the B tourneys over making the WGC majors is my preference. I removed the WGC major and added $50 to first place, fourth place, and the fedex winner. I also took the $50 originally allocated to the TOC and put it to last place. I feel good with this structure, personally.

  • We increase the buy-in to $150/person (additional $1000 to play with)
  • We start the season with the Sony Open in Hawaii (Jan 11th), which adds 3 tourneys +$150)
  • We make the Players pay as a major (+$50)
  • Make the 3 WGC events pay as a major (+$150)
  • We add the 4 B tournaments as $25 winning payouts (Puerto Rico, Corales, Barracuda, Barbosol) (+$100)
  • We do the following payout (+$700)
    • 1st place - $450 (was originally $200)
    • 2nd place - $200
    • 3rd place - $100
    • 4th place - $50
    • Last place - $50
    • Fedex Champ Owner - $50
  • That's a total of $1000 increases.

I'm writing up a full post documenting the rules/schedule/etc and will start the draft thread today. We'll begin the draft on Wednesday, December 13th. Everyone has 24 hours to make their pick, at which point they will be skipped and will be given the highest remaining player according to Official World Golf Rankings at the time. I will do my best to PM/text/email people when they are up. If you have a preferred method of communication, please PM it to me.

Also - the following people have NOT paid yet, along with what they owe. Don't make me chase you down please.

@BigMike - $100
@JKelley34 - $50
@Dave Stapleton - $150

For the draft order, @Zomp will email me a random ordered list of participants. At the same time, I'll email him a random ordered list of numbers, 1-20. We'll cc someone (@Vegas Sox Fan ?) for audit purposes. These will be matched up to create the draft order. Once we do that, I'll post it all in the Draft Thread.

Good luck.

Also - what do you propose for the point structure for the match play event? I know we want to change it, but not sure what it should be.

My proposal would be:

  • All players not making it to the bracket play - 1 point
  • Round of 16 losers - 3 points
  • Quarterfinal losers - 5 points
  • Semifinal losers - 7 points
  • Runner Up - 10 points
  • Winner - 15 points
