He was released a couple weeks ago.
A forest of bandwidth trees never to be seen againIt's painful to look back on all the virtual ink that was spilled here to try explain Belichick's motives for not doing deals that was never on the table.
They got 1/2 season of value here, so that's not nothing. And we really aren't sure what was it wasn't on the table in the off-season.I. Just. Don't. Understand. How is this better than what they could have gotten in the offseason?
The ones that have been proven to be wrong in this very thread?Reports from April.
Darnold won’t be coming out, nor should he based on performance this season.I don't get this from the Niners' perspective. Why rent JG for a year and give up a high draft pick when they can finish the year 2-14, draft Darnold and keep their second rounder.
How much does a top 5 pick make this year compared to what JG will likely be due?
The 9ers have to spend a ton of money next year, draft picks are cost controlled.I don't get this from the Niners' perspective. Why rent JG for a year and give up a high draft pick when they can finish the year 2-14, draft Darnold and keep their second rounder.

Well, now they can pick someone else with no. 1 or 2. Also, until you know strength of schedule, you can't be sure whether you'll have the first pick and who knows if Cleveland (or a team they might trade with) is interested in Darnold too. Bird in the hand here.I don't get this from the Niners' perspective. Why rent JG for a year and give up a high draft pick when they can finish the year 2-14, draft Darnold and keep their second rounder.

According to the Happy Hour (Bay Area Sports Net) said it was the higher of the two second round picks. Is it SF's own pick? They have New Orleans' as well but that should be much lower.
This is basically a first rounder if it's their own. Pretty good return. I assume if TB gets hurt they will just run some kind of set with three RBs or something and win anyway.
I would worry about TB missing like four games and knocking them out of home-field or something but if TB was hurt during the playoffs they're not winning shit so I can't get too torn up about not having a backup.
I do think JG will be at least an average starter but what do I know.
The math could be JG+that pick on someone else is better than simply Darnold.I don't get this from the Niners' perspective. Why rent JG for a year and give up a high draft pick when they can finish the year 2-14, draft Darnold and keep their second rounder.

For one, Darnold hasn’t been playing as well this year...he’s had a lot of picks and some ugly games overallI don't get this from the Niners' perspective. Why rent JG for a year and give up a high draft pick when they can finish the year 2-14, draft Darnold and keep their second rounder.

Could be that they just don't like any of the class from this year and will likely be picking the second best QB behind the Browns anyways. I see it as the choice between the draft, paying Cousins the biggest FA deal of all time, or hopefully locking in Jimmy somewhere between those two.I don't get this from the Niners' perspective. Why rent JG for a year and give up a high draft pick when they can finish the year 2-14, draft Darnold and keep their second rounder.

They could always draft Barkley (from PSU) if they draft high enough. The math could be JG+that pick on someone else is better than simply Darnold.
I mean, his agent would be criminally negligent if he didnt immediately call New England right?Niners release Hoyer.
This is who is coming here.Niners release Hoyer.
He would be a great backup on the Pats (if he can't get a started gig somewhere else).Niners release Hoyer.
I thought I read somewhere that Kaepernick specifically mentioned NE in his collusion lawsuit?I think it would be spectacular if Belichick signed Kaepernick tomorrow. The press conference alone would be worth all the ESPN blathering.
"Coach, are you worried about Kaepernick's politics?" "I'm just here to coach football"
"Coach, do you think he will kneel pre-game during the anthem" "I'm not Nostradumus, I can't predict the future. I'm just worried about today's practice"
"Coach, will this be a distraction?" "Will what be a distraction?"
Thank you for that. Can't wait for BB to answer the "will you be signing Kaepernick?" questions from the media.
Get your popcorn ready.Signing Kaep would be hysterical, but he’d have to be willing to take like 1.5 mil for half a season.
YES. Not only does it make f'ball sense, but it karmically balances the Trump-taintSign Kaepernick for the rest of the season please
The obvious choice to anyone who's opinion matters is likely to be the guy that's been in the system before. He will be hailed as THE obvious choice, and the Pats will be criticized if they don’t take him on.
Yep Kaep is not coming through that door. This is who is coming here.
Kaepernick named Kraft in his lawsuit. I doubt they go in that direction.
Miners releasing QB Brian Hoyer. So no Kaep in NE.Get your popcorn ready.
He will be hailed as THE obvious choice, and the Pats will be criticized if they don’t take him on.
If they do, everyone will go nuts aim a positive way, and B.B. will be peppered with questions whether it was a shrewd political move by Kraft.
That's been reported. I actually don't think that would keep Pats from signing him---I don't think Kraft gets in the way. But I suspect BB actually doesn't want Kaepernick, probably because he doesn't like his decision making. But also possibly because he doesn't want the hassle. Who knows, really.I thought I read somewhere that Kaepernick specifically mentioned NE in his collusion lawsuit?
https://sports.yahoo.com/among-colin-kaepernicks-targets-grievance-vs-nfl-president-donald-trump-223351664.html?src=rssOne pivotal moment that will draw interest in discovery occurred long before Trump’s railing on anthem protests during this season. Instead, it was March 20, when the president engaged in some apparently unscripted bragging to a crowd in Louisville, Kentucky, about his influence in keeping NFL teams from signing Kaepernick.
Of particular interest about that moment is that it came one day after Kraft had joined Trump on Air Force One for a flight between West Palm Beach, Florida, and Washington. Kaepernick’s camp hopes to prove that Trump has been one of the pivotal unifying forces of collusion in the NFL, either through his relationship with Kraft and Jones, or through his influence using his public platform.
Only to run the scout team in practice. Maybe. He's already shown he can't be a credible NFL starter. Unlike Kaepernick. He would be a great backup on the Pats (if he can't get a started gig somewhere else).
Yup -- though I'm sure would come back. At the moment, there is nobody on the roster or practice squad or even IR that plays QB.He was released a couple weeks ago.

One little detail. He stinks. Not a good QB.He would be a great backup on the Pats (if he can't get a started gig somewhere else).
Even if BB believed Kap was in the right (not sure he does given his military allegiances), no chance he goes that route. Guy hates distractions more than fumbles.Get your popcorn ready.

It would be by Kraft. Also a great move to wipe the stench of that Russian loving 45 off this team. Since November it’s been a black cloud hovering. Kaepernick is the guy they need. He could become Brady’s successor or just a stop gap. But a guy who threw 16 TDS and 4 picks deserves to be at the very least a backup.Get your popcorn ready.

I suspect releasing Hoyer was part of the agreement and that the Pats contacted his agent before all of this went down.I mean, his agent would be criminally negligent if he didnt immediately call New England right?
Sorry what are Kraft's military allegiances?Even if BB believed Kap was in the right (not sure he does given his military allegiances), no chance he goes that route. Guy hates distractions more than fumbles.
Same.Fan boy take. I was really looking forward to JG being the starting QB for this squad post Brady.
His 16 touchdowns to 4 INT ratio says otherwise. Is he an MVP? No. But he’s not bad by any meansOne little detail. He stinks. Not a good QB.
I think being back in the league might hold some intrinsic non-monetary value for Mr. Kaepernick.Signing Kaep would be hysterical, but he’d have to be willing to take like 1.5 mil for half a season.
I sometimes wonder if he brought in Tebow just to make a point about the whole no distractions thing.I think it would be spectacular if Belichick signed Kaepernick tomorrow. The press conference alone would be worth all the ESPN blathering.

Was referring to our coach, the one whose old man coached at Navy.Sorry what are Kraft's military allegiances?
This is ban worthy. He never lost it, jerkface. In the good news department, Tom Brady has regained the throne as handsomest Patriots QB.
Niners also just drafted a QB--Beathard, in the 3rd round.I don't get this from the Niners' perspective. Why rent JG for a year and give up a high draft pick when they can finish the year 2-14, draft Darnold and keep their second rounder.
Pretty sure he's donated more than 1.5 million this year. I don't think he's particularly money motivated at this point in his life.I think being back in the league might hold some intrinsic non-monetary value for Mr. Kaepernick.
To say. nothing of potential future earnings.
