But interviews with multiple law enforcement officials directly involved in the case say Lloyd—a semipro football player who was dating Hernandez’s fiance’s sister at the time—had information the football star did not want out: that he was bisexual.

One of the notes left by Hernandez was to his prison boyfriend, who is now on 24/7 suicide watch, multiple law enforcement sources confirm. Hernandez’s sexuality would, of course, not be relevant save for the fact that an intimate relationship he allegedly had with a male former high school classmate was at the center of the investigation into Lloyd’s murder.

Thanks for posting E5. I didn't realize that. I though that info was still coming from the radio source referred to a few pages back.

It seems crazy to me that all of a sudden we have this new, never before-mentioned motive for the Lloyd murder. Is this meant to imply that he really was not guilty of the other murders after all, or just that the two crimes were unrelated? And he killed to prevent this secret from being known, yet left a note for his prison lover that he must have known the media would learn about? (Or was he just that stupid not to realize that?) I don't know - although this supposedly has reliable sources behind it, to me it seems as if some of these people might have decided "We know this guy was an evil monster unworthy of any kind of good reputation, so why not amuse ourselves by making up stories about his sex life?"

Or to drive some other narrative? Stupid jock culture drove him to murder then that + CTE drove him to suicide, for example. Let's ban football, yippee.

I think it's good that the judge entered an order preserving evidence. I think there may be a back story or two we don't know, and it's important to preserve what can be preserved.

I posted the Daily Mail story here with reservations, but that seems the least of it at this point.

The cause of LGBT rights has come much too far to be set back by a single shithead like Aaron Hernandez, so this won't have any lasting significance. That said, there are good reasons that prison officials don't divulge details of this sort, and it's shameful that MA prison guards are leaking like a sieve on this story.

Florio is out with a strong statement on PFT decrying that the trashing of AH has already begun. The reactions to it are predictably sad. The judge who entered the preservation order really needs to be attentive to its enforcement. If there was an institutional screw up, if someone was asleep at the switch, it needs to come out.

Or it was brought up before but kept quiet because sometimes folks realize that personal things are, you know, personal.
Well, it wasn't personal if it was the motive for the murder! What I find strange is this alternative version of a previously straightforward story, not the fact that it involves homo/bisexuality specifically. If the Lloyd murder were suddenly being explained by a motive related to drugs, money, hetero sex, etc., I would be just as puzzled.

AH deserves trashing for a lot of reasons. Kind of stunning that some people have chosen the one area that is both unjustified and generates sympathy for Hernandez.

I agree - it's strange that this is coming out now - if being outed was a potential motive, you would think it would have been a big deal around the trial. I can't see the prosecution just ignoring that.

School's canceled today 'cause Kurt & Ram killed themselves in a repressed, homosexual, suicide pact.

Though it’s barely been a week since convicted murderer and former NFL star Aaron Hernandez died by suicide in prison, author James Patterson already has plans to write a true crime book about Hernandez. Patterson’s publisher Little, Brown announced his plans on Thursday.

According to the release, “The non-fiction book will investigate the dramatic rise and fall of the football star, who left behind a murder sentence, a young daughter, and shocking secrets.” Patterson’s chronicle will follow Hernandez from his Connecticut upbringing, through his college football days at the University of Florida and signing his $40 million NFL contract at age 22, and culminates in the crimes (a murder for which he was convicted and a subsequent double-murder for which he was found not guilty) that preceded his death in prison at age 27.

So Michele McPhee, who "broke" this story on Kirk and Callahan was on the air to promote her marathon book, within which she claims the older brother was an agent of the US Government and they left him hanging so he got pissed and did the bombing. I don't recall hearing that theory before. Did I miss something? Or does she just get her info elsewhere from where the rest of us do?

Hernandez died depicting himself as Jesus

Before hanging himself with a prison bedsheet, Aaron Hernandez cut his right middle finger and in blood drew circular marks on each of his feet, consistent with images of the feet of Jesus Christ after he was hung from the cross.

In red pen, Hernandez also wrote John 3:16 on his forehead, a scripture verse that declares eternal life for all – even the most wicked – as long as they believe God sent his son to perish for them.

On a nearby table, a Bible was open to John 3:16, with the verse marked in blood. “John 3:16” was also written in blood on the wall of Hernandez’s cell No. 57 of the G-2 unit of the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts.

All of this comes from a Massachusetts State Police report into Hernandez’s death on April 19. The report, released on Thursday evening, concludes Hernandez’s death was due to suicide and requests the case be closed unless further information becomes available.

The Worcester County (Mass.) medical examiner had also ruled it a suicide. After initially declaring skepticism at Hernandez taking his own life, his family has lately remained silent on the cause of death.

Prosecutors are trying to stop his conviction being thrown out. They have a few arguments, primarily that it was an intentional suicide for this purpose which perverts the course of justice. Most creatively they're arguing that at least one appeal is null because technically he completed his life sentence. They're using a letter in which he hints to his fiancée that he's killing himself intentionally to ensure that she's rich.

State prosecutors are hoping to use the letter to argue that Hernandez's murder conviction should not be vacated in the wake of his suicide, as it would "reward the defendant's conscious, deliberate and voluntary act," according to a court filing...

They argued that abatement lacks any solid historical or legal basis, and added that Hernandez's death technically completed his life sentence.

"A defendant, who can cut off his own criminal appeal by suicide and stall civil litigation by a stay of proceedings and then prevent application of collateral estoppel, has the reins of the entire justice system in his own hands," prosecutors wrote.

I know nothing about legal stuff but as Hernandez was convicted of the gun charges and that conviction wasn't under appeal when he died, doesn't that stick ? If so that crime was before he signed the contract and invalidates it. Meaning that Hernandez/family don't get the money that he was thinking they'd get.

However the family of Lloyd would now have a tougher road as that conviction is gone.

Am I correct ?

I don't think the road is any tougher for the Lloyd family in civil court regardless of the conviction being overturned.

The salary cap implications are complicated and I'm not sure we have full visibility, or any reason to think his suicide will change them.

That said, I believe it would have been his failing to report to mandatory events that would have served to terminate his contract, not his arrest, and that we never reached that point becasue Pats cut him before he missed anything.

I do not think it is correct that the arrest voided his contract, and the only argument it did is an anticipatory repudiation theory that likely would not fly here.
