Today schedules were released for all MLB teams.

The Red Sox open March 29 with a 4 game series at Tampa Bay, followed by a two-game series at Miami. Home opener is April 5 vs Tampa Bay.

Interleague road series are @ Atlanta, @ Washington, @ Philadelphia and @ Miami.

Lots of home games in September is nice.

Every team is starting on Thursday, March 29 next season. This is to get in more off-days while finishing at the same time (September 30, this year ends on October 1).

more general info at http://m.mlb.com/news/article/253826800/2018-major-league-baseball-schedule-released/

this year the AL East will face the NL East in IL match-ups, etc.

Red Sox schedule starts here: https://www.mlb.com/redsox/schedule/2018-03

notables:

-opening series is 4 @TB, then take care of 2 @MIA before home opener
-home opener is April 5 vs the Rays, we will face the Rays in 7 of the first 9 games, and 10 times before April is done
-Patriots Day is Orioles, and also a getaway day before a west coast swing
-done with all west coast travel by mid-June
-6 games against Braves - home series in late May, away series in early September. usual 4 against Phillies in a separate 2 & 2
-finally go to Nationals Park July 2-4
-final 6 games are a homestand with O's and Yanks... 15 of final 21 at home

MLB usually schedules an off day in between the 1st and 2nd home games in early April to account for the high probability of a game being postponed due to bad weather.

Not a total screwup by MLB. Cubs, White Sox, Indians, Brewers, Twins, and Red Sox all start on the road.

I was hoping for snow postponements en masse.

Those last 14 days should be interesting:

@NYY, @CLE, then home vs BAL and NYY.

Weird that they go to LAA and OAK, then two weeks later go to SEA right after a series at BAL.

I'm glad for the weekend games in Seattle. I did't make it up there this year due to it being ANOTHER midweek series. Before this year I think I'd seen at least one Red Sox game in Seattle for the past 10-12 years.

I almost took time off work this year to go but then other stuff came up. Kind of mad I missed Devers debut and a Sale start. Definitely going to Safeco next season.

I'm eyeing those Seattle games. Mid-to-late-June is the perfect time to visit, as the daylight lasts forever, but the weather never gets too hot

The Brewers have a roof, so that kind of is a screw up. On the whole, though, they did a pretty good job. Only the Tigers, Reds, and Phillies open at home and outdoors, of the traditionally cold northeast markets.

I'm planning my summer camp trips and we would like to be to make sure that the Red Sox game we go to is a day game. I'm looking at 6/28 vs Anaheim (they play at Baltimore Friday)... August 23 Cleveland who then travels to KC on Friday. And Phili on 7/31,who travels to Miami for Friday's game.

Any guesses?

Guessing June 12 will also be a day game in Baltimore
I assume you mean the 13th? Does anyone know the rules about start times before long flights? Are they available on line anywhere?

If there is no rule that makes the Orioles start early, I wouldn't count on any help from the Orioles (Buck.)

Pretty sure there's no rules and it's up to the home team. I think we went through this with Detroit (?) this year. So yeah, unless Baltimore hits the road day after as well, I'd expect that to be a night game.

The new CBA forbids night games when the team has to fly more than 2 1/2 hours.

The latest possible start time for getaway games on days when the visiting Club travels to a home off-day or either Club travels to another game the following day shall be determined by taking the portion of the in-flight time that exceeds 2 1 /2 hours, and subtracting that amount of time from 7 P.M
So if it's a six-hour flight to the west coast, that means that a game the prior day can start no later than 3:30.

I'll have to look it up when I get a computer, but wasn't the Detroit problem that the opening game of the series was a day game after the Sox had a late (extra inning) game the night before?

You might be right on that, but it was raised before the game went to extras i believe and the issue was with the Orioles the night before wasn't it? (Sorry, fuzzy on details and having trouble finding it)

Here's the article. The Sox requested that Detroit move the start time back, MLB approved, but Detroit refused to move it. Then the Sox/Orioles game had a rain delay and exacerbated the problem.

I was at that game in Baltimore. It was an absolute down pour. After the game was called Buck got on his high horse and congratulated himself repeatedly for calling the game quickly so the Red Sox could get to Detroit. He said something like: they (the Sox) don't always treat us very well, but we are above it all.

The fact was the field was under water and there was no way the game should have been restarted.

The flip side is it might not even get out of the 60s: June weather here isn't the greatest. And I think a perfect time to visit would have a higher chance of the mountain being out. But it'll be nice to have the weekend games.

Counted 51 games for season ticket plan B , all Mon-Fri games with the exception of Opening Day and Patriots Day which aren't included - and , for Opening Day I end up buying two Sox Pax at Christmas at Fenway to get in.

The bill will likely go up - six Yankees games on the plan... and , the last Sunday (which we traditionally go to) is a Yankees game... tough to get.... oh well.

26% of the first 50 games are vs. Tampa Bay, all before Memorial Day, then the remaining games versus the Rays are in a 10 day August stretch. Let us hope the Rays are cold in those two stretches.

Looking again at the schedule and it sure looks like an easy Late March/April.

Just 6 games against good teams on paper (Yankees and Angels).
14 games vs Tampa, Miami and Oakland - though the latter is out west, and then a series vs the Royals to start May.

Echoing grimshaw . . 12 games in the first month against tanking Florida teams and 18 games against tanking teams in the first 31 games with only 6 games against teams expected to be over 500
