Really, the Lama?  Kershaw's got a career .338 OPS at the plate, not sure it's apt to compare him to a big hitter like the Lama...

It's Lama Time!

Halama, and his .361 career OPS, has chunks of Kershaw in his stool.

You guys, everyone knows that the Lama is a big hitter.

We're talking David Ortiz or Manny Ramirez, minimum.

The one sad sidebar is the Red Sox trying to jump in on the Royals story. Yes, Dayton Moore interviewed in Palm Springs when Theo Epstein was on hiatus in 2005. He told me that before he left two days later he had dropped out because he didn’t think that was the right job for him. He was never offered the job, never invited back, and Larry Lucchino wanted Jim Beattie. The need for attention is embarrassing. Fiction.

What the hell is Gammons talking about here? I have no idea what the context of this story is. Did Lucchino say that the Sox almost hired Moore in 2005?

Basically.

“We always like to confirm our judgment about people,” Lucchino told Bradford. “It pleases me that a guy like this got his chance to make good, and it sort of confirms that maybe we were on the right track.”

Still though, who cares?

I mean, do the Sox really need to latch onto the Kansas City Royals for more publicity?

Classic Gammons post on upcoming Red Sox offseason! Loved this post -- I know half the rumors here are Gammons rumors and dust in the wind -- but he gave such a wonderful summary of the Sox' needs and possible targets that I can almost see how the offseason and 2015 will unfold, giving, again, rise to hope.

Some of the tidbits, but better to read it yourself:

-- Cherington "acknowledges the Red Sox have to begin their plans acquiring two starting pitchers and what he calls “an impact left-handed bat.”
-- "...[E]everyone in the organization held themselves accountable for underestimating the widening jump between Triple-A and the majors (between the increased strike zone, shifts, +++ power bullpens and diminished minor league at-bats), hence some of the disappointment in the performances of players like Xander Bogaerts and Jackie Bradley..."
-- "This we know: Cherington isn’t trading Mookie Betts, and Betts, Dustin Pedroia, Ortiz and Christian Vazquez are going to be in there every day with Betts and Pedroia at the top of the lineup."
-- Classic Gammons: "Thursday night at an Arizona Fall League game, one highly-respected veteran scout offered the opinion that Deven Marrero, who is hitting .320/,443/.420 in that league, is the best defensive shortstop in the American League and that, in his opinion, Marrero is a better player than the Indians’ phenom Francisco Lindor."
-- Sandoval might be a fit for the Red Sox, because they can let him DH towards the end of his deal, while Bogaerts or Cecchini play third.

And more! The relationship between Chili Davis and Cespedes! Marrero's possible evolution as a hitter! Interest in Hanley Ramirez? Likely targets for acquiring starting pitching! Roles for the kid pitchers!

Good stuff.

Is ho-scaled a typo? Or is it a word I don't know? I figured it was a typo.

@pgammo: Russell Martin belongs somewhere on every AL MVP ballot
Why not?  He's clearly coaxed the best knuckleballs out of RA Dickey's fingernails this year.

Joe Maddon calls today's lineup "Cape Canaveral"--by position 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1. In Tampa he had Tommy Tutone--6 3 4 5 7 8 9

Wilson Pickett is not impressed.

Wait. What? Wouldn't the Tommy Tutone lineup be: 8-6-7-5-3-0 (sic)-9? With the remaining 4-2-1 spots bringing up the rear.

Just in case you were wondering, there are six Jennys who played professional baseball, none made it to the major leagues.

Spier linked a nice blog entry today from Gammo, some good Yaz porn, especially for those too young to appreciate him. Wished he fleshed it out more into a proper article, I love some of the anecdotes he has on the toughness of Yaz and Fisk from when he was working the beat.

Gammons tells a great story about Fisk on
Bob Ryan's podcast.
It starts at about the 21 min. mark
