Incredibly smart. To overcome the awesomeness that is the NFL TV experience, the venues have to offer lots of ancillary value beyond the seat. Cheap food and drink is the simplest way to keep customers coming back. Aside from cheerleaders, of course.

The $5 Bud Light is only a 12 oz pour. Still cheap compared to the $13 24 oz cans at the Garden but not exactly an Earth shattering deal.

Speaking on concessions I was pretty pumped to pick this up for $5. Can't wait to wear it opening weekend.

This is a great move but honestly the prices could be even lower and they'd still turn a good profit. But I suppose there is a fine line because if you charge $2 for a Bud Light you're asking for trouble

I sent that to my buddy in Atlanta and laughed at all the money being spent for a non working roof and closed restaurant.

But the reality is Atlanta FC will have more home matches plus the CFB, concerts, etc. And when ChikFilA is closed they are simply changing the sign and selling generic ballpark food.

I still remember in 2004, driving by some bowling alley parking lot on route 9 right after the Sox had beat the yankees. Somebody had set up a stand and I could see they were selling something to do with the Red Sox. I pulled in, got out and took a look. They were selling towels and other stuff that saluted the 2004 American League Champions Boston Red Sox. I said no thanks and the guy asked me if I was a fan. I said yeah. He asked why I wouldn't be interested in buying. I said that, if they won the World Series I'd be so ecstatic it that I'd want World Championship stuff.. I I wouldn't want league championship stuff. But if they lost the World Series then I'd be upset that they didn't go all the way and I wouldn't want to memorialize the season with league championship stuff. Either way . . .

Why does anyone ever make a hat for anything but going the full route?

I understand where you're coming from and in general, I agree. But so far as 2004 goes, I prefer my ALCS shirt and hat over my WS shirt and hat by a wide margin. The title is what it's all about, of course, but coming back from 0-3 against that franchise at that time will never, ever be topped. For me, at least.

Now that you mention it, why does Jets gear even exist anymore?

These dummies put a Chick-fil-A in their stadium.
It's actually not as dumb as it sounds because the booth will be open on Sundays selling non Chick-fil-A foods. I mean it's certainly dumb for chick-fil-A and falcon fans who want it at games, but it won't be an empty food stand every Sunday,

Yep.

I've worn my 2004 WS Champion T Shirt in Manhattan a few times. I've also worn my 2004 ALCS Champ T Shirt in Manhattan, and that one gets much much better anger out of the locals than the WS Shirt ever does. Bellman at the Westin in Times Square was giving me shit about it 2 days later when I wasn't wearing it, and I got threatened in Little Italy (what's left of it) as well.

Working that "NOT A CHICK-FIL-A" booth has got to be an unofficial circle of the modern Dante's Inferno, no?

Drunk football fans, lined up, expecting some TASTY FUCKING CHICKEN and instead being told "sorry, Chick-Fil-A is closed today. Would you like a $7 burrito instead?" is going to result in some really angry dudes yelling at hapless food service workers.

Seriously, fuck the corporate asshole who OK'ed this. He should have to work that booth every home game this season. In a paper hat.

It's not going to advertise that there's a Chik-Fil-A there on Sundays, as was mentioned upthread. And unless people are big fans of the MLS team or hit up every concert at the stadium, which I'm guessing most won't be, they probably won't be familiar enough with the stadium to figure it out.

Did I miss a link with details on how they're going to hide it? Seems likely the Chick-Fil-A booth will have a Chick-Fil-A sign. Are they covering it up? Putting up a tarp? A hand written sign?

From the ESPN story: "A source said the digital signage in the Chick-fil-A stand will be flipped when the stand is closed and it will be used by stadium concessionaire Levy to sell other nonbranded food and beverage items."

Falcons only have one non Sunday game at home this season. Thursday, Dec 7th. Get your Chik fil A!
I did not know that. Kinda surprised a Super Bowl team has so few non-Sunday games. However I figure the Falcons will play there more than one season. Given how quickly teams change stadiums in Atlanta, that might be a big assumption.

Agreed. For a long time, I alternated wearing an '04 ALCS and WS hat almost randomly. In fact, shortly after the WS win, my fiance and I were walking through the lobby of our apartment building in Marina Bay, and I hear a guy say "Nice Hat!", when I turn around, it was Ron "Papa Jack" Jackson, who unbeknownst to us had been living in the apartment next door. He said that while the WS win was, of course, fantastic... the ALCS comeback was something that he felt just as proud of.

Of course, now, I'm not even sure where that hat is, and the number of Boston/NE championship hats hanging in my office is downright obscene.

Considering taxpayers subsidized $600m of the stadium, every GA resident should get what, $600 of free concessions?

Ya when I was reading it and first cited the other games I was also surprised. But it really isnt much different from the Pats.

ATL - 1 away (at NE) and 1 home SNF (GB). A home Sunday 430 (Dal). Two Away MNF (Sea, TB) . Home Thurs (NO) - 6 prime time, 3 home.
NE - 1 away (Den of course) and 1 home SNF (ATL). Two away Sunday 430 (mex city, Pitt). Away Mon (Mia) Away thurs (TB) and home Thurs (opener KC). 7 prime time, 2 home.

This is an amazing level of free publicity that implicitly emphasizes their religious angle they're getting from this.

They better hope they can make the roof work by September or these deals are worthless
Why does it matter if the roof doesn't work until September? The team has played under a roof for nearly 30 years.

No one has mentioned the 17 MLS home games that will be played there each year. And remember, the expansion MLS franchise has been selling out 55,000 seat Bobby Dodd stadium regularly.

The stadium will HOST the freakin Chik-fil-A bowl. Yet, somehow it's a bad business decision to sell Chik-fil-A at the venue of the Chik-fil-A bowl?

Fact - Chik-fil-A's average store sales equals McDonald's average store sales PLUS Burger King's average store sales, and they do it being closed one day a week.

Do you think fans are going to be disappointed they can't get Chik fil A at Falcon Sunday games? GA residents are already used to being disappointed they can't eat Chik-fil-A on a Sunday every time they drive past a closed store on a Sunday. That's not a new experience.

Pretty much.

I haven't been to a sporting event in Atlanta since the last Sox visit to town. I'll get to the new baseball stadium when the Sox come again. I still wear my Thrashers cap every day. They left town six years ago.

I do intend to catch an MLS game in the new stadium though.

Maybe this is common knowledge, but:
You have to be willing to wait for it. I love the idea that there many different kiosks around the stadium that offer different food. That said, most of the "fan friendly" pricing you see online is only offered at a few select locations. And if you want to wait in line for that $2 hotdog, you better be willing to wait at least 20 minutes. Other places have regular , more expensive offerings that cost at least $10 if not more like $11 premium nachos and $10 burgers. It all depends on where your seats are or how far you are willing to walk for cheaper food.
So while the cheap food is still great, it's not a stadium-wide thing.

This is the only Falcons thread I can find so I guess this goes here. Matt Ryan. Unbelievable season last year, and many thought that it was him leaping into the elite class of QBs. Well, not so fast.

He's basically been a little-above-average NFL starting QB his whole career, with two exceptions. Here are his passer ratings year by year, followed by the league average.

Year - Ryan - NFL (Diff) - Ryan's Rank
2008 - 87.7 - 81.5 (+6.2) - #11
2009 - 80.9 - 81.2 (-0.3) - #20
2010 - 91.0 - 82.2 (+8.8) - #11
2011 - 92.2 - 82.5 (+9.7) - #8
2012 - 99.1 - 83.8 (+15.3) - #5
2013 - 89.6 - 84.1 (+5.2) - #12
2014 - 93.9 - 87.1 (+6.8) - #11
2015 - 89.0 - 88.4 (+0.6) - #20
2016 - 117.1 - 87.6 (+29.5) - #1
2017 - 92.8 - 85.9 (+6.9) - #13
AVG - 93.6 - 84.4 (+9.2) - #11.2

Not where I imagined he'd be. I thought he'd be much higher than this.
