Man... great catch, but what an ugly throw. We know Brady wasn't getting hit by the defense as he threw.
Nice catch but nowhere near OBJ's. Sweet defense by Jacksonville there.Apparently Brandin Cooks just made a sick one-handed catch from Brady for a TD. Mark Daniels called it as good as OBJ's catch was against Dallas. He followed up with another TD on a fade route. I can't wait to see this offense going full-throttle. Imagine a 1-back set with White as the back and Edelman/Cooks/Gronk/Hogan.
No, but there was a lot of traffic in front of him. If he saw Cooks was wide open, all he needs to do is get it close.Man... great catch, but what an ugly throw. We know Brady wasn't getting hit by the defense as he threw.
That seems highly unlikely at this point. Sure there will be some surprise cuts this year but a young, cost-controlled QB who already has NFL experience is not likely to be one of them.FWIW, I was listening to F&M for a brief moment today and they were going on about Brissett and how he's going to get cut. Not sure what to make of it but I suppose it's worth watching (?)
What to make of it is that you won't get much information of use doing the bolded part.FWIW, I was listening to F&M for a brief moment today and they were going on about Brissett and how he's going to get cut. Not sure what to make of it but I suppose it's worth watching (?)
Stop listening to Felger and MazzFWIW, I was listening to F&M for a brief moment today and they were going on about Brissett and how he's going to get cut. Not sure what to make of it but I suppose it's worth watching (?)
The injury definitely derailed his progress, but I don't know where you get Belichick saying that Brissett hadn't shown a lot of growth in the spring.Belichick in an interview on Sirius/XM the other day said that Brisset's injury "derailed" his progress last fall and that he hadn't shown a lot of growth in the spring/OTA phase.
It will be interesting to see how it goes this year because his role is a little bit different. He has a lot more experience and he’s certainly grown as a quarterback, but it will be interesting to see how that all manifests itself this year. I think he’s had a good training camp so far and it looks like he’s come back ready to compete and he’s definitely made some progress here in the last week or so. We will just see how that continues to go.
They used to carry three quarterbacks a lot (and of course famously carried four one year) but that with the old emergency QB rules. I believe last year and Mallett's rookie year are the only seasons they've carried three under the new CBA. That's not to say they won't, though; clearly Belichick values the position. The competition for the 53rd roster spot is fierce; there are a lot of talented football players who are going to be cut, and most of them will end up on rosters or practice squads elsewhere. Only rarely in the Belichick/Brady Era have the Patriots carried three quarterbacks, and when they have it has been because of some other factor (injury/suspension).
I would guess Brissett sticks but I don't think this outcome is unlikely, and I agree with everything else you wrote. Heck, they did this with a third-round pick just last year (Geneo Grissom). If Brisset regressed after his injury and hasn't played well in the spring or summer - his draft pedigree is not going to guarantee him a roster spot. Kevin O'Connell was a third round pick too and he was cut after a year. If Brisset hasn't shown enough growth and development, why would they keep him on the roster? And exactly what did he show in those game last season - other than toughness? He was in a simple scheme, had trouble accurately finding receivers, and looked like he needed lots of development to even be on the roster. Sure, some other team might snap him up - but would some other team be able to develop him properly?
I think it likely at this point that Brisset gets cut at the end of camp and then spends his year on the Practice Squad.
Garoppolo.Zolak was pretty down on Garrapolo last week for reasons that remain unexplained...
Brissett....So, who really knows where Brisset stands.
Made it, and while getting on the bleachers is tough we got on for the last hour.Anyone going tomorrow? Hoping for a combo like last year of rain keeping fans away but not enough to cancel practice/move it indoors.
I would expect (hope?) we wouldn't have to use it much when the games count. This GIF will get plenty of use in the game threads:
Depends on whether or not you start the game threadI would expect (hope?) we wouldn't have to use it much when the games count.
You ever hear of Wally Pipp?Ha.
Someone else can roll with the next preseason game, I'll be back for the Chiefs.
So much for him "sucking it up ..."The more I watch Jimmy, the more I move towards him being too good to let go. If it means franchising him for a season to keep as a backup then move into position as starter, you do it. If you're getting a good offer from a non-contender in the offseason?

Ha.

There ya go.Good point.
He's a good player but does he have a role on the team? Gronk and Allen are definitely ahead of him. Does he bring more to the table than Lengel or O'Shaugnessy. JOS has a ton of ST value so I wouldn't discount him from making the team solely for that. So, who was as excited as I was watching Jacob Hollister run down the seams?
Apparently, he needs to work on blocking a ton. Otherwise, would love to have him on the roster. Like Carr, he won't make it to the PS.
I feel like every year we worry about guys not making it to the practice squad and relatively few are actually claimed. Teams all have 90 man rosters of players they like now, and they had 250+ opportunities to draft UDFAs like Carr and Hollister and didn't.So, who was as excited as I was watching Jacob Hollister run down the seams?

If we lose Hollister, we can always dip into the well for Zach SudfeldLike Carr, he won't make it to the PS.
And the players who have not made it to the Pats' practice squad and then went on to notable careers with other teams are ...?I feel like every year we worry about guys not making it to the practice squad and relatively few are actually claimed. It's hard to answer because we don't know whether the Pats would have put guys on the PS or not, but notable rookie cuts who latched on elsewhere include Robbie Gould, Cre'von LeBlanc last year, Ted Larsen (who was a draft pick). Jeremy Mincey (also a draft pick) is probably the most prominent. I'm probably missing a couple. And the players who have not made it to the Pats' practice squad and then went on to notable careers with other teams are ...?
That's not a rhetorical question; I'd like to know if there are any and who they are.
Robbie Gould, Jeremy Mincey, and Cre'von LeBlanc come to mind. Kamu Grugier-Hill was solid last year on ST for the Eagles, as an honorable mention. And the players who have not made it to the Pats' practice squad and then went on to notable careers with other teams are ...?
Not counting the Jets, right?I feel like every year we worry about guys not making it to the practice squad and relatively few are actually claimed. Teams all have 90 man rosters of players they like now, and they had 250+ opportunities to draft UDFAs like Carr and Hollister and didn't.
Gould was also out of the league for a few months before the Bears signed him. He went to the Ravens after the Pats and was cut by them before signing mid 2005 season.Thank you both.
Interestingly, Gould's first year with the Bears was Adam V.'s last with the Pats -- 2005. Whether that would have gotten him PS status is unknown, but they had franchised Adam twice by that point.
Why would a non contender try to trade for Brady? The more I watch Jimmy, the more I move towards him being too good to let go. Nah draft picks aren't overrated any more than they were when we were all pissed about losing a first. Franchises that don't get value from draft picks will see performance erode. Its just that 1) individual picks have have high variance and 2) there's more to getting value out of draft picks than just picking a player when your turn comes up.So much for him "sucking it up ..."
Relatedly, there is serious and informed chat in another thread of the Pats' cutting one recent second-rounder, if not two.
Draft picks are overrated
Ticket sales and a playoff run? Jacksonville might be a playoff team with him.Why would a non contender try to trade for Brady?
