Pedro Castellanos hit his 2nd HR of the season. He is now hitting .396/.452/.532 in 125 PA. 8bb/7k. The guy is ridiculous.

Has Chavis had any work at a corner outfield spot yet? JBJ/Mookie/Benny outfield means any spot can be backed up by a corner OF and someone else slots over to CF.

I have to imagine he is going to get put on the 40 man in September and come up to get some ABs, probably not for the playoffs but as a nice audition for next year.
Steve Selsky we hardly knew ya.

Farrell really is a horrible quote, he can't answer a yes or no question without rambling for 30 seconds.

As for the 40 man, as I noted Selsky is on it and he is OPSing 626 in Pawtucket as a 28 year old so I don't think they need to look too far to figure out how to get a spot for Brentz.

How could they get both Carson Smith and Bryce Brentz on the 40 man and up in Boston. As previously mentioned, Selsky could be released without a sweat. Who would be the other move? Marco Hernandez??

A non prospect but 29 yr old Jeremy Barfield now has 21 homers in 270 AB in AA. Slugging around .600.
Hit his 22nd today. 13 HRs in his last 103 PA. 16 in his last 154. 13 HRs in 24 games, 11 HRs in the last 19 games.

Swihart had a good game in the GCL today, going 2/2 with a double and 2 walks.

Juan Perez had a great game for GCL too, going 5ip, 4h, 1er, 1bb/9k.

Tanner Houck struggled in Lowell, going 1ip, 2 hits, 2er, 2bb/1k. 36 pitches, 17 strikes.

Jay Groome 5ip, 7h, 2er, 0bb/7k, 1HRA, 88 pitches, 56 strikes. Last 3 games: 16ip, 11 hits, 0er, 21k/3bb.

Dalbec is continuing to strike out at a really high rate. This is his 55th game for Greenville this season, and he's struck out 85 times.
Currently 0/2 with 2ks in today's game. That's 41 ks in his last 88 PA, to go with 8bb and 5 HRs. He's been even worse of late, striking out in 11 of his last 17 PA.

edit: 0/3 now, at least he didn't strike out though.

Abad and Boyer are always at risk of removal
Why would you remove Abad? He just hasn't been used properly by Manager John. They should be auditioning Abad as a LOOGY going down the stretch, but Manager John thinks it's smarter to have JoKe and Hembree face LHH in key situations.

Carson Smith with a scoreless inning with 2 Ks for the PawSox tonight. I assume he'll need to rehab until September 1st but then he'll get that month to show he should be on the playoff roster.

As for Carson Smith, I heard Peter Abraham on during yesterday's rain delay. He basically said that Smith is not being looked upon by the Red Sox as some sort of saviour. Instead, the Red Sox will use him in low leverage situations the rest of the year with an eye towards 2018. In other words, any chance of Smith becoming the "8th inning guy" is extremely remote.

Since returning to Pawtucket, Deven Marrero is 22 for 68, with 7 2B, and 3 HR. 15/2 K/BB ratio. That includes 1/7 with 4 K in his first 2 days back. The lack of walks is the only blemish, but seems like hot streaks often coincide to low walk rates.

It seems like the change they made to his hitting while he was in the majors may be sticking.
