What are the Cavs offering? Has to be Love right? Would Love make sense for Ind or would Bos want to facilitate a 3 team trade providing the picks and players Ind wants?

If we're connecting the dots, you might also be asking why the Celtics moved so quickly to complete a deal with Philadelphia ... Hmm.

O'Connor seems to be pretty tied into the Celtics as he was one of very few to predict Jaylen Brown last year.
He also says that if you want to be GSW you need to gamble. This was in a reply to tweet asking if he thinks PG could be convinced to stay if Celtics got him and big FA. He says possibly.

Really? Giving up Kyrie doesn't make much sense if the goal is to build a starting lineup that can compete with Golden State.
Yeah. George is better than Kyrie or Love, but not by enough to close the big gap.

George would give their more options on offense and he's a two way player. If there's a chance that George will stay long term, you go for it, IMO. George can defend Durant and wear him/Iguodala down on the other end.

He's a deadly shooter, and there is no use for Love against the Warriors. It's all about shooting and playmaking. He makes them better on defense and gives them even more options on offense.

Here
Why would Indy want Kevin Love? They'll need to completely rebuild, why would Love at 24 million/year during his 29-31 aged seasons be at all enticing?

My completely baseless theory is that the Celtics did the Philly trade to get more assets for Indy. George hears about it and says he won't resign with Indy or any non Lakers team.

I'm probably in the minority but I'm bearish PG relative to Butler. I think a lot of folks are biased by memories of PGs break-out season at 23 holding his own against Lebron pre-injury. Sadly, I think that was his peak and he hasn't been as good since. Their stat lines were very similar this year. George had slightly higher usage and they were equally efficient scorers (if you account for Butler getting to the line much more), but Butler was a better passer, defender, fouled less and turned the ball over less. I think Butler is a better all-around player today and in the future, so I'd prefer going for him.

The issue with George, I think, is the contract. Would the assets dealt be worth what seems like one year of George

For that reason, George probably costs less, which might make it a better deal... then, if he loves winning and being loved in Boston it might convince him to stick around. (best case it'd be like that other kid from Englewood who grew up a lakers fan but fell in love with playing in green) my concern is that he's not as much of a needle mover as some folks would like to think (my WAG is he's worth about a 2 win upgrade but i'm probably more bearish than most)

So they're not announcing the MVP until June 26? Knowing the playoff MVP before the regular season MVP is pretty strange, this is the first season they've done it this way, right?

Two NBA sources expect Lakers to parachute into Paul George talks if the Cavs are closing in on a deal. Unclear if #2 would be on the table.

I posted last night how this is where I expect George to end up by Thursday. It simply makes too much sense for all parties involved. George ends up in his desired location, the Pacers get the best return package, and the Lakers can then create space for LeBron next summer.

Love is a decent return for a lame duck FA but the Lakers have the #2 in their pocket to out bid pretty much any offers that come across Pritchard's desk.

Trading #2 for a guy who seems like a strong lean to sign with you in a year just seems like an awful idea though. I can't imagine that LA would have to offer that much and if they did, I'd pass and take my chances that George doesn't want to be in Cleveland long term.

The Lakers wouldn't be able to sign both George and LeBron next summer by waiting. They would have to secure George's Bird Rights this summer first. The Laker have enormous incentive to acquire George right now.

#2 still seems like too much, and vastly more than any other rumors we've heard (or at least, that I've happened to notice). If that's the plan, they should be pursuing something like the Philly offer to Boston. I.e., move #2 to SAC for 5, 10, and maybe make them take Movgov. Then flip #5 for George, while still keeping #10 and ridding them of that awful salary.

On paper that sounds fair Finn, but there are a lot of moving parts to get right in a relatively short amount of time. It also ignores (or discounts) the leverage the Pacers have. They know that George is significantly more valuable to the Lakers than to any other team.

How would Cleveland get Butler? What/who would they trade? Love? They have no near-term picks of any value, do they? And nobody outside the top 3 seems worth enough.

Would Danny want Love more than Butler? He's controllable longer, but more expensive.

CLE could flip Love to someone who would send younger player and/or picks to IND who would send George to CLE.

Danny would not want Love, IMO

Ainge was by many reports in on Love in the past---though that was pre-Horford signing.

I think the question is whether you can play Horford and Love together much. They both pass and space the floor on offense, and Love is a nice fit rebounding wise. But they are both pretty slow to cover/switch on the perimeter.

If you think you could, those two and Zizic is a pretty interesting 4/5 rotation with Crowder as the smallball addition. If you can't play them together for 20 min a game then Love no longer fits, does he?

Cleveland has a 10 million dollar trade exception that expires at the end of July. Wonder who they could take off someone's hands with that?

Are you sure about that? I think the largest exception they have left is the Dunleavy one and it's only $4.8 million.

Stupid. David Griffin did everything in his power with their limited assets to build a contender around Lebron. You can't make additional stars appear out of thin air.

with both GM and Assistant GM out, who is going to lead the negotiations to trade for PG or Butler, Gilbert himself?:D:popcorn
Whoever Lebron wants?

Also, in defense of Gilbert, Lebron is worth it. No gm they could get is worth even a fraction of what he is to the franchise right now. Obviously, they should be trying to get Lebron to see that he needs a real gm to help them win, but if push comes to shove you should pick Lebron.

This may have been assumed but I feel like this is an important piece:

Paul George's camp is informing teams that he is purely a rental, no matter who trades for him
If true, then George and his agent really screwed over the Pacers. They could have at least kept the bit about him wanting to leave a secret so to leave them with some leverage. Now they're forced to trade a player (or lose him for nothing) and the receiving team has to assume they're only getting one year. I'm assuming the "league sources" that leaked the news weren't from the Pacers front office, which would be monumentally stupid.

Really would like to know the delta between what Indiana was offered at the deadline for George and what they're receiving now. Clearly should have taken the best offer back in February.

Well, it's a zero sum game so to the extent that he is screwing over the Pacers he is also benefiting his rental team and, presumably and particularly, the Lakers.

So would you be interested in a rental? Yabusele and a Memphis/Clippers first for a year of PG. I'd do it, just to see how far we could get this year. Sign Hayward, trade 3 for 5/10, draft Isaac and Collins, still have a good stash of picks going forward and have a good run next year.

The Griffin thing is a huge asshole move by Gilbert, beyond him being a good GM.... allegedly 3 different teams (ORL, ATL, MIL) all asked to interview him for their GM job and CLE refused permission. Now all have made hires and he gets let go.

You'd have to include Crowder and AB. Not sure you'd have enough for 5 and 10 with George and Hayward either.

George will help defensively vs GSW, but he's more like Melo on offense. he doesn't exactly move the ball well, so Cavs would have three ISO guys with Lebron being the only elite passer
