How would it ultimately be enforceable though? No court nowadays is going to effectively institute a worldwide ban on someone plying their trade, especially when they have such a small window to perform. Just breach or repudiate, take the fight, and pay whatever damages may result out of the purse.
IDK, but I'm also guessing that you are a much better person to answer that then me.

But it does kinda beg the question that if UFC/Dana can't legally stop the fight, why does everybody keep circling around to them being a player in whether or not it happens? From the sounds of Floyd and Connor this should/would otherwise be done before now.

They can make life difficult for sure. I imagine they'd file an injunction and that'd go to court. I know in the past Don King used to enjoin fighters, I think including Lennox Lewis, from fighting when he claimed they owed him fights under contracts. But employee law has changed a lot since then and courts are very loathe to enforce restrictive covenants.

Oh man, Putin is taking all our best fighters. Roy Jones, Floyd Mayweather, Steven Seagal.

Thoughts from UFC Fight Night 107:
  • Gunnar Nelson really impressed, and I love his attitude based on the post-fight interview.
  • In the undercard, Marc "Bonecrusher" Diakiese was also super impressive, and not just because of his 30-second knockout. Incredibly quick, he was toying with his opponent and throwing undefended acrobatic kicks...with power. Currently 3-0 in the UFC (12-0 in MMA). He's also an entertainer and should be fun to watch in the future.
  • Jouban looks exactly like a young Jean-Claude Van Damme, and his style of fighting helps in this regard.

Assuming each gets by their next opponent, Cody Garbrandt next wants to drop down to fight Demetrius Johnson. He says he can make the weight.

That would be a fun fight.

Cormier struggled to make weight today. Here's the video, with his first weigh-in at 21:40 and second weigh-in a little after 24 minutes.

There was Twitter outrage over the grabbing of the towel on the second weigh-in.

Pearl Gonzalez's fight against Cynthia Calvillo was originally cancelled due to Gonzalez's breast implants but is now back on. Not sure why it took the day before the fight for officials to both cancel the fight and then determine it was back on.

Jon Jones commented on the towel grabbing as well. ~4:10 here:

"I watched the guy, if you focus on his hands, you can see him looking down and balancing out his weight just right to make 205. What a clever trick... One of the dirtiest things I have seen in sports."

Some bullshit here. But I think Weidman was trying to get a DQ on Mousasi and he fucked himself over

Weidman milked that shit because he was gassed and it blew up in his face. Terrible ending to an entertaining fight.

Exactly right. This did lead to Mousasi repeatedly scolding his corner which is the part of his personality that I love. Mousasi is one of the most talented guys but has never had consistently great camps. He was a bit of a Ronin years back

I feel bad for Mirgliotta because it's a tough call, and it seems like he did the right thing checking with John McCarthy.

They'll get rematch and it'll have more hype now.

That was funny, he was pissed and his corner was cheering and he's like, quit that shit guys this sucks. He's so classy and has a great sense of humor from the interviews I've seen of his.

Cormier does not look at all like he should be able to do the things he does. That has been true since his amateur wrestling days

They put that top 10 up and I couldn't believe the lack of depth. High top end talent sometimes does that. 185 sucked when Spider cleaned it out and now all of a sudden it's good. There are also just not that many guys in the world that are a lean 205 that. An fight.

2 retirements, Mousasi getting the victory, but still screwed, Rumble inexplicably wrestling DC. Rough night. =(

And the ones that can are still far more likely to grow up learning to tackle, not punch.

Literally. He just retired.
Yeah, I literally grabbed my keys and walked out of place last night the moment DC got his back, already certain that was a wrap.

Just caught the retired bit. Not surprised. For a guy who reportedly hates to train he was looking at a long time before ever seeing another title shot again.

Rumble retiring is good. The less women beating trash persons in the sport, the better.

DC rules.

Rumble is an incredibly entertaining fighter, but I have been a bid disgusted by all of the people praising him outside the ring. I agree with you.

I thought rumble DV thing was a misunderstanding?

Anyway fuck him. He had a great chance to win that fight even after the horrible idea to out wrestle DC. He's broke his damn nose.

I don't care about not training either. Too many of these guys overtrain anyway

This does not strike me as a "misunderstanding", idk.

The civil case was dropped but I tend to believe a woman when she says a man knocked out 2 of her teeth.

All of that said, Rumble vs Jon Jones is one of the great "what if" fights that will likely never happen now. That would have been a fun one to watch.

In the big picture, the biggest development out of last night might be Dana White essentially acknowledging that Connor vs. Floyd is going to happen. Never thought I would pay money to watch a boxing match again, but sign me up.

“I see this fight happening,” White said Saturday while at UFC 210. “Conor wants it, and Floyd wants it. I’ve said many times Conor has done a lot. He’s stepped up for big fights for this company, and for me and for (former UFC CEO) Lorenzo (Fertitta). I can’t deny him this fight. … Conor is having a baby any day now, and after Conor has his baby, Conor and I are going to meet in New York.”

White said the fight is still “not close” to being official, but preliminary discussions are already underway, he said. Among the UFC, McGregor, Mayweather and his camp, a long list of hurdles remain. Details – from how the fight will be distributed to how and what the fighters are paid – must be ironed out, but White said those are solvable problems.

People close to Mayweather have already suggested how revenue would be shared, but White said any comments on that front shouldn’t be taken seriously – especially if it comes from the likes of Floyd Mayweather’s uncle, Jeff Mayweather, or promoter Bob Arum.

“What I would like to clarify is all the (expletive) about the 80/20 split (between the UFC and McGregor),” White said. “Jeff Mayweather? Come on Jeff. Me and Jeff go way back. Jeff, are you the spokesman now for (expletive) Team Mayweather? And Bob Arum? You piece of (expletive) – (expletive) you too. What do they know about this fight? Want to know what they know about this fight? Nothing. Believe me.

“We have had preliminary talks with Conor, and I’m in a good place with Conor, and we’re going to meet in New York when he has his baby.”

I have no idea what the hell he was thinking. Knockout power, speed, and reach...he voluntarily took all of that advantage away from himself.
Only thing I can think of is that he made the decision to end his career before the fight. By grappling, it reduced the number of blows to the head he would take.

Maybe. But he looked pretty shocked after that submission. I haven't read anything about his retirement announcement yet, but I kind of assumed it had a little to do with him responding poorly to the loss. It's a shame because he could have been something. He's almost Mike Tyson-level scary - at least in terms of power and ferociousness, if not results.

Listening to Weidman speak after the fight, I'm not surprised the commission stopped that fight. The guy could barley form a coherent thought and kept repeating himself a dozen times.

I'm sure it's not terribly uncommon for fighters to take that kind of damage and continue on, but most don't have cause for doctors to start evaluating them mid-fight.

He didn't know what day it was apparently.
You can hear Serra saying something to the effect of "he don't ever know what day it is, though."

People talking about Holm-Correia being close to done for a fight night. I can't imagine a line that'd keep me from betting Holm.

Holm has dropped 3 straight and has executed a questionable game plan in each of those fights since her one masterpiece against Rousey.

You sir are a lot braver then I am.

Holm may end up as the favorite, but atm I personally just wouldn't let my $$$ touch her or the workings of a somewhat sad ESPN 30 for 30 story 10 years from now.
