SOSH iOS App: Memory Hog

I have been inflicted with an iPhone 6 with only 16 GB for the next two months, and am now constantly trying to stay within memory limits. I've dumped everything I can to iCloud, stored and cleaned out my messages, and even done the "try to download a big movie rental you know your phone can't swallow to force iOS to compress memory as much as possible", but even so I'm running at the limit. I do have (and use) a lot of apps, and that's where my issue is.

Leading the app memory hit parade is our very own SOSH mobile app which is now at 750 MB and growing. Why does it use so much memory, and what's my best alternative other than deleting and re-installing?

Assuming you mean storage and not memory, I just checked mine and it is taking up 2GB. I'm assuming it is caching photos and videos posted to the forums that you read.

Deleting and reinstalling would probably clear the cache.

Clear the apps cache from the settings pane in the app

Thanks, I was looking for something like a cache clear but couldn't find it for some reason.

Bad news is that only dropped me down from 750 to about 680 MB, meaning this app is still far and away in the lead. Restarting the app doesn't make any difference. I'll try rebooting to see if that helps.

You sometimes need to clear the cache multiple times (click the button 2-3 times) and wait for the progress circle (next to the cell bar) to disappear. After it finishes clearing the first time. Hit clear again and wait for the progress circle to disappear. Then force quit the app and reopen it.

Cleared the cache again, actually multiple agains. No change. I deleted the app--that gave me back 200 MB. Rebooted and that gave me the rest, about another 450 MB.

Just reinstalled and it's taking up only 53 MB right now

edit: the answer to the web browser suggestion is, of course, convenience. Otherwise why use apps at all?

Try clearing your cache every hour. That will keep the memory around 100MB. The longer time between clearing the cache the harder it is to get rid of it all.

Just use your dang web browser.
I don't get the benefits of the app. First you can't view Tweets, which makes everyone have to repost the text of the tweet for the app.

I've always used Safari for SoSH and it works great. I tried to use the app and just found it to be a pain in the ass.

That's what I do, too (except chrome rather than Safari). I put a bookmark to New Posts on my homescreen and it launches straight to SOSH.

Is there any browser that doesn't support tweets? It's really annoying the "I'm on the app so post the tweet text for me!" crowd. It just seems unnecessary to support a small group because they just want an app.

I've had an icon on my home screen on my iPhone for years. It just launches SoSH and we're good, no need for another app.

I use the app mostly because of formatting and convenience. I also prefer to view Timeline and it seems my safari on my phone can't keep me logged in. Yes it's annoying that it doesn't support tweets and I've basically stopped asking people to repost stuff because I used to think more people used it and have since realized I'm in the minority. If the reaction to one seems strong enough, I go to safari to find it. That being said safari on my laptop is about 50/50 for loading a tweet he last six months or so. I assume that's an issue with my security settings or something but it's completely inconsistent so who knows.

As to the thread topic, I looked at mine and it was hogging almost 3 GB. Clearing cache didn't help so I deleted and reloaded and it's fine now.

It would be great if the app worked with tweets but I understand that's a tapatalk issue we have no control over. But seemingly there was enough want or seeming desire for an app to begin with or the mods wouldn't have bothered.
