Is there any reasonable chance he is gone before 23?

This is worse than Tavon Wilson in the 2nd
If the Celtics rated him that highly, why is it unreasonable to think another team did too? If Ainge thought he was the best player but gambled that he would drop because of how Jay Bilas rated him, he should be fired. It's far more likely that Chad Fors rated him too low than Ainge picked him too high.

Have Bradley, Sullenger, Smart, Olynyk, and Rozier not played any role in getting back to "competitiveness"? That is a third of the team right there, eh?
I think it is all Stevens, Thomas, and the bench/role players like Amir, Evan Turner, etc.

I don't think Smart can be grouped with the other guys as he was a top pick. I only think Bradley and Smart have been good. Rozier and KO have not really helped the team yet.

YEs there was a very reasonable chance, guys projected after him some places went before him. (Pappagiannis Maker some places etc.)

Chad Ford - (pulling from ESPN, rather than twitter feed)-

"The Celtics take French PF Guerschon Yabusle at No. 16. I love this kid. He's a beast in the paint, can shoot 3s and is more athletic than you think. I like it. He has Danny Ainge type toughness"

Without doing the research, I'm sure Bradley has a positive value compared to what is expected from a pick in that spot.

But to say that KO hasn't helped the team, that means you don't know anything about basketball. Yes, he isn't Giannis but he's certainly an asset to the Cs, particularly in this day and age.

I wonder if there's a renewed shift in emphasis towards "upside" picks in the draft, after what seemed like years of trending in the other direction.

Producer from Felger/Mazz says Bulls wanted 3, 16, 23, Smart, Bradley, Crowder, and next year's Brooklyn pick.

Given the picks the Celtics have and their current roster I can't say I'm too worried about whether they get "value", per se, with these mid to late first rounders.

I don't particularly like the Yabusle pick, as I think it's harder to "turn it on" defensively than is generally believed (same reason I don't like the Brown pick) but I don't worry about the reach aspect. Once you're out of the top ten or so, concerns about "could have had him later" are a bit silly to me.

So Ainges choices were mortgage everything for Butler or a bunch of useless picks and Noel for #3...looks like they made the right choice. I would have preferred Dunn but I trust their judgment for Brown.

No. What I tried to point out is that KO isn't the reason the Celts are competitive now. I am not a basketball expert, but I am pretty sure Stevens and Thomas have had a lot more to do with the Celts recent success than KO, but you are free to disagree.

Is the culture in French leagues wrt defense comparable?

Keep in mind that's just a Felger/Mazz schmuck, though I trust Wyc will start leaking the proposals if he hasn't already.

I see J-Stew's report. As one of his friends works for the Celtics I would tend to trust that. Now I'm off the ledge about Ainge screwing it up. No way do I do that deal for Jimmy Butler. I do wish he took Dunn however.

Hoping Zubac and/or Zizic fall to 23...Deyonta Davis, Korkmaz, or Skal would also be good picks

Honestly, if I have a criticism of Ainge tonight, it's not competing and moving up to get Chriss.
