Frankie with a quick win last night, left hook KO. Dana said he'll get a title shot next
Maybe but who knows what happens. Right now he's still #3 in that division.

I have Jacare, Weidman, and I have no idea. McGregor-Aldo I could see going either way. I've been going back and forth all day.

Maia is amazing, total domination.

Two judges scored the fight 30-25, with the third at 30-26. Had an advantage of 218 to 6 total landed strikes.

So stoked that paper tiger fraud champ Weidman is dethroned.
Can't talk shit after he took that beating. Glad I got money in on Rockhold though. Weidman never inpressed me much.

Vegas must love this fight. CM is -120, Aldo is -110. Haha.

A match that can be shown on a vine. That's going to piss a lot of people off who paid for the fight.

That was hardly a glass jaw situation. He got hit on the button. That would put anyone to bed. He fucked up and left his face exposed too far forward throwing that punch.
Not only did get get hit on the button, but coming into the punch. It's like a double whammy when you come or twist into a punch. Damn near doubles the power.

Whatever, the fight was close until Weidman threw that ill-advised wheel kick and he was arguably ahead. Weidman was and still is the real deal, it's not like he was outclassed by Rockhold (nor would anyone else in that division touch him).

I am not sure what fight you were watching. Round 1 was a joke with Herb Dean separating an active Guillotine choke. Rockhold won round two and round 3 should have been the end of the fight. It is bullshit that Herb let Weidman take that beating in round 4. I like both fighters quite a bit, but I don't see how you call that fight close.

Dana White usually gives quick rematches for champs, but Aldo will be waiting a long time. White doesn't like him for all of the fights he's had to scrap due to Aldo pulling out. Plus, he's not overly marketable. When it comes to hyping a fight, he's the anti-McGregor. White would love to have McGregor fight a trilogy with Frankie Edgar.

Agreed. The only time Weidman looked good was in the beginning of round 3 and even that was only for a moment. I give the guy a lot of credit, he's got huge stones, but he was dominated tonight.

They should have Mcgregor-Edgar next month, not like either of them took damage...

Yep, dying to see this fight. Someone is going to take McGregor down repeatedly and beat the fuck out of him or submit him with with his upright, front leg forward stance. That is essentially what Mendes did for two rounds before missing the guillotine and gassing.

You are right, Weidman is a warrior who deserved better.

I'm not a BJJ expert but I took Joe Rogan at his word when he said that Rockhold wasn't doing anything with that choke in Round 1. Weidman had side control on the other side, that 'choke' wasn't going anywhere, it's just for show. I had Weidman winning the 3rd round until the kick.

As Joe said, getting a submission off of the guillotine without control of the guys legs is near impossible, but UFC refs don't stand up submission attempts that are still in play. The choke should have, and almost always does, count as "activity" enough to let him hold the position. Maybe I am just soft and really hate getting guillotined, but that choke is painful as fuck and saps energy with low relative energy output from the guy holding the submission. Herb fucked Rockhold with that stand up, before fucking him on the non stoppage at the end of round three.

One more thing, I think Jacare got robbed.

Yeah I was surprised too. Not that I thought Rockhold would submit Weidman there, but he definitely was taking wind and energy out of him, which is huge in a 5 round fight. Bad night for Dean.

I agree on the stand up. Rockhold kind of got screwed twice in that fight. The choke might not have been going anywhere, but having to deal with that for the final minute of the round would have put Weidman in a huge disadvantage in later rounds. And who knows...perhaps a tired Weidman does something dumb and allows Rockhold to complete the submission. Second, not calling the fight on Rockhold's full mount resulted in another round, and a chance for Weidman to get lucky.

I don't know how the scoring was going but by my untrained eye, Rockhold was clearly better up to the wheel kick. He was tiring at that point, but he seemed to be defending pretty well and was the only one effectively countering.

It wasn't and you're wrong. Weidman got his ass beat for 4 rounds and lost. Fuck Long Island.

With the stand up, I thought Weidman won the first round. Well, he won the first half by more than Rockhold won the second, so I gave it to him. But Luke controlled the next 12 minutes.

Scoring Jacare/Romero was interesting. Every round was completely different. I had Romero beating Jacare 29-28. Romero g&p'd him something fierce in R1, it could have been stopped, that's a 10-8. R2 barely anything happened, Romero was getting gassed and Jacare was regaining his composure, so 10-10, and then Jacare won R3 but wasn't close to stopping it, 10-9.

R2 could be disputed, but for me, actionless rounds are usually 10-10, because I don't like to give an actionless round the same weight as a solid 10-9 that has 4x or 5x more strikes thrown or other action. Sometimes I wish they could give the round with the most action double the weight, just so the damage is more considered.

edit: fight metric had it the same http://www.fightmetric.com/fight-details/f83c6bdd553b5851
sig strikes: 27-5 R1, 6-7 R2, 13-18 R3

Also Dana White hates Aldo more because he actually talks about fighters' rights. It's going to be wonderfully hypocritical for him to give Rousey an immediate rematch (that she needs more time to come back from and probably doesn't want quite yet) but not Aldo.

Personally, I don't think any champ should get an immediate rematch if they get KTFO or otherwise dominated.

Im torn, definitey a fluke knock out, but that's a shocking lack of technique to bring your hand back that low and slow against someone like McGregor.

You don't think Aldo will get an immediate rematch? I think they both will. Ronda's rematch is in the bag already. Given the fact that Aldo's loss was 13 seconds, I see them both happening. Conor has a huge psych advantage now.

Press conference going out right now, 2 scenarios laid out - 1) Frankie gets his shot or 2) Conor moves up, fights the winner of Cerrone-Dos Anjos.

Also, Rockhold said he was happy that Herb Dean stood them up in the first round. His position was tiring (moreso because he was exhausted due to his staph infection) and he was just trying to conserve energy.

I want to see both fights happen. Does the weight matter? What I mean is it is easier for Mcgregor to stay at 145 then gain to get to Cerrone/Dos Anjos or should he do the heavier fight first? Imo he should defend his belt first against Edgar successfully before moving up.

I agree. Going forward Romero either need to be more aggressive, or work on his stamina. Jacare was still wobbling to start the second, but Romero sat back, and then he gassed out. No way he can go five rounds with Rockhold.

What an athlete though. He has a wicked explosiveness even at 38. I'm going to put a picture of him up in my gym locker. Having said that, he lost to Tim Kennedy.

Im torn, definitey a fluke knock out, but that's a shocking lack of technique to bring your hand back that low and slow against someone like McGregor.
I'm not sure it was a fluke. Conor told some reporter exactly how it was going to happen. Watch 35:00 to 37:00.

Aldo rushed in and put 12 months of emotion into that right and he left the back door wide open.

I'm glad he's not done with 145. I want to see Edgar and an Aldo rematch.

I loved watching the juxtaposition of Rockhold and Weidman as athletes. Weidman is a big, strong stiff. He's probably not very good at other sports. Then Rockhold was amazingly fluid and loose for such a big guy. I bet he could play any sport he wants at a high level. The difference in their kicks was night and day, at least.

Rockhold is going to be a scary champ when he's healthy and off antibiotics.

So I don't watch UFC much, just the interesting PPV. But every time I do I'm surprised how terrible most of the fighters are in a stand-up striking situation.
I know most of these fighters are well rounded, but their "boxing" for lack of a better word skills are mostly terrible. Lot of really wild long swings, leave their chin wide open when coming in. Don't slip punches well, etc.
I wonder if the reason some of the fighters like Holm and McGregor who started as boxers are having so much success is that it is easier in a short period to teach competence in avoiding submissions/takedowns than it is to teach the fundamentals of boxing. I went back and watched McGregor fights before last night, and one thing I noticed is he has that boxer's style of slipping strikes while looking to counter quick, and so many of his opponents wildly overcommit to their strikes as if they expect him to cover up and block rather than slip and counter.
